shooting for IP biglaw.
0 offers w/ only 2 more CBs left.
FML. Why did I go to law school? I thought the market wouldn't be as bad for IP but it is. It's awful. I just hope I can break back into engineering.

That's impossible. Flame? Or really bad interviewer?

yikes. You're either a flame, a real EE personality, or I need to revisit Schaum's outlines and hit up GE
Identical situation here, at Boalt, 0 years of WE - 26 callbacks - 0 offers, 3 cbs down - 23 to go, hope I don't "go down that rod" (Southpark reference)

I'm not aspie. I had a decent number of CBs (~10). So I must have been doing something right. I was shooting for a market (CA) that I have ties to, but so far, no offers.

I'm calling flame on this.

Not flame. I just had no idea how bad the market was. I should have done more screening interviews and gone to the fucking Loyola Patent Fair. I thought I would be fine just going through OCI.

I will call you on Skype and show you my grades, patent reg number, and CB emails. This is not flame. The only posters who would say this is flame are folks who are not acquainted with ITE.

maybe its the age thing - you're closing in on 30 I'm guessing. Pat reg number is useless; no IP lit big law cares about that. Most big law firms in IP lit are either neutral or negative about work experience in the field - they question your "passion about the law" - unless you wanna do prosecution.

I'm under 30.

pretty high profile pat lit told me that people with that level of WE (5 years) are generally considered less desirable than young guns who are really more "lawyer" than engineer. Primarily because engineering work experience has no relevance to what patent litigators do; its just a time-sink.. kinda like working as a patent agent and then trying to become a litigator.

that makes no sense at all. i'm under 27 and i have a reference that they can call to verify i am a hard worker. this is in contrast to someone straight from UG who might be an academic allstar but a lazy sack of shit in the workplace (this is a VERY VERY common fear according to many attorneys i've spoken with)

band 1 litigator in california told me on a callback that guys who work as engineers or patent agents are prosecution assets, but if they really wanna do litigation, they probably wasted years of seniority.
I'm just reporting the news; in any event - moral of your story = EE+IP over-rated; you still gotta do the available job fairs and hustle.. not sure what you were thinking

I'm just reporting the news; in any event - lesson learned, do your job market research before you waste more time in law school.
LOL @ the concept of someone in their mid 20s having "wasted years of seniority." YFWGI

No way someone with those stats at that type of school comes up empty handed unless he just isn't very good in interviews. There are great people even at my school who are very likable and have great grades, but just don't come off well in interviews. Or, perhaps you're just being overly dramatic...have you actually gotten rejections yet?
ITE doesn't explain this bud.

well.. not sure why every other EE I know from 3 different schools who is just top 30% has DOUBLE the callbacks you do - and they only got 2-3 from the Loyola thing.

Why didn't you look outside IP? I am below median at CLS, and I have 3 offers. You could have gone to a non-IP firm and just done IP at the firm once in the summer program.

OP: your 5 years of WE and patent bar passage are not as important as you're making them out to be, if patent litigation is what you're shooting for

Really? Every EE you know has 25 CBs? I don't know *anyone* with 25 CBs. Not even people in the top 1% at my T10.

I know 4 EEs, and all of them have 15-20 callbacks - yes. One of them is at HLS, one at Northwestern, and two at Cornell - they're probably around median or top 25%

You probably are. Seriously. ITE does not explain this one. Even the fact that you did not hustle for jobs doesnt explain this one. Stats like that at a good school + EE doesn't get you totally shut out without something else playing a role.
The bright side is you can still try to hit up not so large firms that have a burgeoning ip practice.

If this poster is NOT a flame, then all my EE friends are liars about their # of callbacks - or there's something whacky going on with your screening interviews.
Just out of curiosity, have you been "emailing" firms outside of CCN's oci?

Do you have experience interviewing ITE, or are you just some 1L talking out of his/her ass?
