The way you asked this question truly makes me want to give you the WTF face but I will answer anyway.

Yes, firms hire you before you pass the bar exam. I would assume there is a clause within your employment contract that says you must pass it within a year or so though. Many of the top firms also pay for the exam as well as exam prep.

Firms hire you with the assumption that you will pass the bar. I think that at most firms you can fail once, but if you fail twice than you'll be fired.
