How is offer communicated

Still waiting for the permanent offer after summer associate job. Usually how do the firms let you know whether you get the offer or not? If you get an offer, will the hiring partner call you? If you don't, will that from regular mail or they will call you to let you know?

I got a phone call from the hiring partner, followed by a letter. Basically the same deal as the original SA offer... they offered everyone in my office (a whopping 3 people) but I doubt they'd call to say you don't have an offer.

For my offer, two partners walked into my office and handed me my offer letter.
