What are the most prestigious PI firms and PI work? Just curious.

I'd also be interested in hearing a little more about this. PI obviously isn't big law (how could it be? it doesn't make enough money), and big law's where all the prestige seems to be...

Public interest?

ACLU
Think tanks
Department of Justice
Office of Legal Counsel / White House legal work
Clerkships (most people refer to them separately, but they definitely fit the bill)
Assistant U.S. Attorney gigs
U.N. level legal work (not sure there's really any entry level hiring)
(Important) congressional committee staff positions
D.C. and/or federal public defender (somewhat harder to obtain than others)

For the most part, straight "help underprivileged people" law doesn't carry with it the veneer of prestige, but is noble and commands respect.

Personal injury? They tend to more local. There are publications that do things like "biggest verdicts of 2010" though for plaintiff's side work, it's not too hard to track that down.

Thanks.

And yes, I was referring to public interest, not personal injury.
