NYC Law Dept?

A friend of mine just told me about his work at the NYC Law Dept. - is this a good place to work? hard to get the job? prestigious?

Anyone who knows anything please let me know

he's in the Appeals division - is that a good one? do they hire?

appeals doesn't hire straight out of law school. they have taken some deferred associates though. who turns down free labor?

nyc law dept. varies in desirability/work load by division. environmental, affirmative lit, general lit, admin, appeals, legal counsel are more desirable. those divisions, alas, hire way fewer people (as in maybe 1 a year vs 10+ a year) than torts, special fed, and family court.
