I am pretty sure they are not open to non-diverse people. And from what I have gathered from this site, Asians are not considered diverse.

They are open to anyone and Asians ARE considered diverse by law firms.

If anyone can show up, why do they call them Diversity Job Fairs instead of just Job Fairs?

If you are saying that they wont kick you out for being white, I can see that, but that is not to say that you job fair is intended for you.

I didn't realize that there was a distinction between these, but I suppose that makes sense. Still, I really don't think they want WASPs showing up. I guess you can go and tell us what sort of reception you get.

Then why comment if you don't know? Asian is diverse and law firms want diversity. Hell, at a law firm, women are diverse.

I think the point is that employers that attend "diversity" job fairs are attempting to hire ... wait for it ... diversity candidates. If you're a white male and you show up to one of these fairs they might not kick you out, but the fact remains that they are looking to fill a certain diversity quota and you would only be wasting both yours and their time.

i apologize to everyone i've offended with this stupid post. besides the fact that it's been bothering me a lot the last few days that i had the nerve to go post such inflammatory nonsense on the internet, i've also just really gotten sick of myself for being so self-absorbed with my own bad experiences and being so angry and bitter all the time.

i'm about to start law school at a very good school and i absolutely need to grow up and behave like someone who deserves to go there.

sorry again and thanks for waking me up.

sincerely.

in hasher words, there are absolutely no benefits to being asian, but you will still potentially be discriminated against as with other minorities.

don't even bother sugar coating it, you can't possibly get a shittier deal than being an asian male
Step away from the crazy. Seriously.

so says the guilt-less white guy
well I'm a black woman but I doubt that's going to stop you insulting me further.

Point is, regardless of what you privately think about URMs or discrimination it is very clear that Asians are considered diverse by law firms.

i am an Asian male, and I find your post ridiculously ignorant and offensive. "model minority"?? "no benefits to being Asian"?? That is blatant stereotyping, good luck with that attitude in the real world. The only reason Asian men could possibly have a "shitty deal" is because of racist idiots like you perpetuating old and false stereotypes.

Wow. Nuance comprehension fail.

And gerghk, at least Asians don't have to deal with the awful stereotypes which haunt most other minorities (e.g. unintelligent, criminal, underqualified, et cetra)

Well you clearly had a much better experience as an Asian male than I did then. But then again those of us who weren't born here are generally treated poorly even by Asian Americans.

Asian male here

There seems to be a dichotomy between American-born Asians, who are mostly full integrated (act "white," for lack of a better term) and are mostly treated as such, and recent immigrants, who seem to have a tougher go of it.

I think you could make that distinction for a lot of ethnic groups. It's hard to be in a place in which you didn't grow up with the language and culture.

Recent Asians in my experience have integrated better than other groups, and faster, but your point is generally credited.
