I'm not too surprised at this, a brick load of my PLIP interviews are NY firms, although I have zip ties to NY.NYAssociate wrote:Boalt doesn't do great at biglaw, actually. But it's not because Boalt is any less than MVP. It's because Boalt students tend to want to stay in CA, and CA firm class sizes tend to be a lot smaller than NYC firm class sizes. Considering how terrible the Bay Area legal market is, it's not surprising that Boalt's placement would be particularly bad in this economy.
What's worse, many east coast firms don't want to travel out and recruit at Boalt in this economy when they can save money and get their hiring needs from local schools. This tends to cut Boalt off from the larger class sized NYC biglaw firms.
And I don't see how Boalt is particularly good at IP lit. Whether you do IP lit depends on whether you have a tech background or can start at a firm that has an IP lit program. Boalt won't give you that tech background, and there are IP lit programs in other parts of the country that are way better than what you get at CA firms. K&E NY and Ropes NY are pretty good examples of this.
