CLES/Networking

So, I'm going to be attending one of MVPD next year. I wanted to network by going to a few CLEs but they are VERY expensive at my local bar.

Are CLE's absolutely essential to network?

Or should I just contact diff. alumni in the practice area that I am interested in and take them out to lunch?

I know networking helps and I don't really want to be left out...

No they are not essential. There are multiple ways to network and noone has time to do them all. CLEs are usually free to students though [at least most are free to students in my city]. Perhaps you can call the bar to check if the fee really does apply to students as well. And note that CLE programs may be hosted by multiple bar associations so look at all the bar associations in your area.

Good luck!
