What kind of activities should students interested in working for the DA participate in? Is hiring as grade-based as private sector employment? I go to MVPB - where should I aim, gradewise, to secure employment at a DA's office in a major city or nearby secondary market -i.e. Manhattan/Queens?

Manhattan prides itself in being one of the most selective DA's offices in the country - they get thousands of applications a year. Like any employer, grades are important, but dedication to public service and especially prosecution matters a lot more. You should participate in trial advocacy, any prosecution-related clinics, and definitely take crim pro and other relevant courses to show that your interest is genuine. I don't know too much about Manhattan but new ADAs in Queens usually are from lower ranked regional schools like SJU, Hofstra, NYLS, and Touro.

From what I hear it's grade based to the extent of your grades in classes important to being a DA (crim law, evidence, etc). Other things perhaps less so. There's a thread somewhere titled "ADA taking questions" or something, I'm sure it has a lot of helpful information.
