3L OCI chances

Stats:

Low T2 to CCN. I was top 1% there and transfered. Crashed and burned at OCI in August. I eventually landed NYC Midlaw (80 lawyer firm). I really want to do transactional stuff.

First semester I had a 3.5. Second semester I crashed and burned and got like a 3.2. Its not like a fucked up but I was writing a note, looking for a job (which took until mid-April to find), and doing stupid journal shit. Also, I got fucked with exam schedules and had 3 exams in four days. I took only "hard" classes like admin, evidence, tax, corporation, etc. I had one seminar too.

What are my odds? Anyone? Derision is welcome.

wow, as someone who dreams of transferring to CCN, this gives me pause. to what do you attribute your OCI outcome? is it really that ugly for CCN transfers?

sorry, i have absolutely no experience with 3L OCI at CCN.

What's the pay at your 2L firm? Just curious.

It really depended on where you transferred from and interviewing skills. For me it was not that good and not that good.

Firms will look at you like they would look at you from your old school, you will just have more interviews at better firms. In the good times, they would hire top 1% from t2 and t3 schools so transfers had no problem; especially since the firm would be getting someone with better credentials. ITE, top 1% at a t2 or t3 isn't automatic big law, and transferring doesn't change that.

i'm sorry but WTF are you complaining about?

Maybe this overblown sense of "entitlement" is what you got you screwed out of "BIGLAW" in the first place.

The firm might not give permanent offers.

OP does the firm give offers?

Or he wants to do transactional work, and his midlaw firm does not offer that opportunity. It's not always about money.

My bad. Did'nt read the entire post and figured it was another t14 student moaning about landing a measly "midlaw" job.

<------------- feels like a douche.

Your chances are very low. My understanding is that even at HLS only a handful of people got 3L OCI offers last year, and I have yet to see a good argument why this year should be better, given that the economy still seems to be teetering on the brink. Go for it anyway, I guess, but be happy with what you have.

anectodal evidence, but it seems that a bunch of biglaw firms are completely swamped right now. mine appears to be actively seeking out laterals, for instance.

Mine is seeking out laterals too. They can come in and start doing shit. First year associates can't do shit and get written off. 3LOLci is dead.
