Unemployed BAMA Grad, Please Help!
So my SO's an 09 UA grad (barred in FL). It has been a year now, and although he's been actively looking for work in FL, he's still unemployed. And BAMA's placement office is no help. He did his undergrad at UF and is trying to get assistance there.
Other than school job boards, craigslist, newspapers, networking, state/govt listings, & JAG programs, where else should he look for jobs in Florida?
At this point, I think he will take just about any legal job...

Would he be interested in taking one in Alabama? It's just that if he knew he was going to work in FL, he should have went to school there. AL is probably his best hope.

No, he won't work in Alabama, no matter what. Frankly, I think he's being unreasonably ITE, but whatever. He only chose UA for the full scholarship, and assumed in 06 that UA really could place in the South. In retrospect, I'm sure he would have attended UF.

There should be a significant amount of plaintiff litigation work against BP in the Florida panhandle area in the very near future.

LOL @ A'nold
I really can't fault him too much, a free ride in 06 looked sweet at the time...

CanadianWolf: Yes, plaintiff's attorneys have been grabbing up clients on the coast. What they don't seem to be doing yet is hiring.
Maybe he should cold call & mass mail them regardless?

No, I agree that a full ride at Bama is awesome, just go where you can get hired, i.e., in this case, Alabama.Anonymous User wrote:LOL @ A'nold

Understood, I've argued that point valiantly to no avail. Also, he's barred in FL which doesn't share reciprocity with any state. I've suggested DC, but as we all know, that's a saturated market.

How'd he do grade-wise?Anonymous User wrote:Understood, I've argued that point valiantly to no avail. Also, he's barred in FL which doesn't share reciprocity with any state. I've suggested DC, but as we all know, that's a saturated market.

Just below median. Which hurt him in OCI, that and he didn't want to work in Birmingham mid-law.
I'm afraid the longer he stays unemployed, the more unemployable he becomes.

Hopefully his resume states that he is " a member of the Florida Bar " & not " barred in Florida".
If feasible consider taking another state's bar exam in a state which offers reciprocity with other reciprocal states where you are willing to work & live. Some plaintiff's personal injury firms seek attorneys with bar memberships in one or more non-reciprocal jurisdictions.
