What to wear to social events for summer associates

For ladies, what do you wear to social events during your summer associate jobs in a big law setting? I am talking about after work social events. If you have some pictures of dresses, that would be great!

for an evening social event, you want to look nice (definitely nicer than you would at work), but still appropriate. i'm thinking a knee-length dress with some nice heels (but not super high or platform heels that you would wear to a club) and a shawl or fancy cardigan.
