after going through all the firms going to Loyola, plenty of firms have requirements for "top 15%, top third, top 25% etc" grade cut offs, and some of them are not that high profile even.

By "not that high profile" do you mean not V10? V20? They probably aren't "high profile" in your eyes, but in the IP world they are. Most IP shops pay the competitively with the top vault firms, offer better working conditions (you work with like-minded engineers/scientists who lack many of the unfortunate personality traits that are often found in biglawyers), and sometimes much lower billable goals. The competition for these jobs is extremely stiff. Like all law jobs (especially patent lit) law school grades/prestige matters, and unlike other law jobs, your UG engineering credential/prestige matter too. Welcome to the real world friend.

If you listened to/read the web briefing stuff, you would know that those "requirements" are not really requirements. You can still bid, and chance are most of the people they end up interviewing will not fit all those requirements. They are really more of a wish list.

Dr. Elliott Reid: "Sir, anal isn't a dirty word."
