I'd also like to know this answer. Especially with regard to applying for clerkships; do you list your summer job, even if you haven't started it yet?

Sorry for piggybacking, but I thought our questions were pretty similar.

That's tough. If it's short term in nature I'd say the answer is 'without a doubt'. If it's long term, or not obviously the kind of job that one would only work at for a few months, it might be a bit of a red glad "what's this guy doing job hunting before starting a job?"

If you have an offer that you have accepted, you should put it on your resume.

You must list the date of employment or otherwise signal to a reader that you have not yet worked there but will. You are also permitted to put a prospective description of what you will be doing (invariably it will be research and writing if it's a legal job).

Talked to my CDO about this recently; for example right now I have a summer job lined up but might send out resumes for fall at any time for a job then. They told me to list the summer stuff I haven't started under employment with the name, dates of working etc. and then at least 1 line description under it which would just state what you'll be doing. (i.e. something like - working in the Self-Conservatorship Clinic with caretakers of... etc. etc. Its not dishonest since you have a pretty good idea of what you'll be doing and its not like your descriptions of a job are usually super detailed

I'd list it. It won't be more than a line or two, since by definition you haven't done anything there yet, but it's worth mentioning

I think it's fine to do it. Better even that it's a job after graduation than a 2L summer job, although even a 2L summer job is probably fine to list.

Unless the job looks embarrassing in comparison with all the other spectacular jobs on your resume, it's probably a good thing to have something for the summer on your resume. It shows employers (a) that you're looking for after the summer and not for right away, and (b) that other people want to hire you. (Never a bad impression to give.)
