Environmental law over IP law?

I'm entering a top law school (not in T-14, but not too far out) this fall and have a doctorate (science). I have a research background, but not one that dealt with anything pertaining directly to the environment. My inclination would be to gravitate toward IP law, but the prospect of environmental law is also intriguing. I have a few questions for anyone who might have some insight or opinion.

Would the PhD give me a competitive advantage when applying for environmental law jobs?

Relative to IP law, would it be harder to find employment for environmental law?

Are there (m)any opportunities outside of the EPA for someone graduating from law school?

Thanks.
