Tips/Tricks for Expediting Summer Associate Solicitations?

For example, what is a mail merge? How can I print a bunch of envelopes at once? How can I print all my letters, without having to manually change the address on each one? What is the fastest way to seal a bunch of envelopes? To fold a bunch of letters? To get bulk postage, thereby not having to individually stamp? What else can our wonderful computers do to make things easier? Is there anything we can do during OL summer to prepare? Directories to consult? Guides to read?
I ask because it seems to me that this recruiting happens right when you are gearing up for finals, and I want to maximize my productivity.
Many thanks.

E-mail.
And it would seem to me to be a giant waste of time to do all of this just to get mediocre grades and have none of it matter. Not to mention 1L hiring is a bit of an enigma anyway. You probably won't get anything from cold-mailing. And you can wait till winter break to do all of it. You don't need to do it as soon as the NALP deadline hits for contacting firms.

Although I agree with the above post, in any case, your career services office should help you with all of this stuff. My school has mail merge instructions on the website for example and a pdf of all judges that graduated from our school. That being said, I sent out hundreds of letters to judges and only a couple responded and I have top grades at a T30 school. I got my federal internship through a professor recommendation. So don't go crazy sending out a bunch of letters that likely won;t be read.
Also, remember that it doesn;t matter so much what you do your 1L summer as long as you get legal work. Good luck!
