Top Law Schools

Let's assume that I've written several student notes as well as two or so law review articles as a law student.

How long does it take to write a law review article while working biglaw? Let's say that I use up about 65 hours a week at "work" (which include travel time). This leaves about five to six solid hours throughout the weekend, with daily (less than an hour) touch-ups here and there.

I tried googling this, but nothing useful : ( If anyone who has law review experience, has peers that worked on writing law review articles, or has gained insight through first-hand experience in working with law professors, I'd do ANYTHING to receive your advice (i.e. making a fool out of myself on TLS, giving a cyber hug, etc.).

Are you talking about a write-on competition article?

notes = articles written by students
articles = notes written by profs

there is no way you're gonna be able to write 4 notes in law school, imo...

No competition.. just trying to lay the foundation for future scholarship.

The exact number of notes won't matter. The important thing is for me to have experience in legal scholarship before leaving law school so that I can write afterwards. Just trying to leave open the option of becoming a professor after a few years in practice.

Are you a 1L? I don't think it's feasible to write four student comments before you leave law school...or at least four quality ones. Perhaps if you co-wrote a paper with a professor it would be. Or if you abandon your regular school work, but that would sink your chances of becoming a professor. Any other 2Ls/3Ls disagree? I only have my own experience, but writing my first student comment took me pretty much the entire year.

Platonic, maybe you can give us some more details on your situation like school, year, etc. I don't understand how you plan to write four notes during law school? My note which is required for Law Review cert has taken me the entire year and is still not done. Bear in mind that this year has been dramatically more stressful in terms of work load than IL. You could not possibly do all these student notes and keep your grades up.

Also maybe your school is different, but how do you even get a note published as a student if you are not on the Law Review? (which you can't be until 2L!)

In sum, your post is a little confusing. It appears either we just don't know your situation or you don't understand the note writing process. Please provide more info.

Depends on your classes. I am in all paper classes this semester, so I am writing 3 law review type articles in one semester. No other work to do.

I will have written six papers of note length upon graduation. Now, getting that many articles published would be a real feat.

But really, I do prefer writing papers to taking exams. I get to be done with law school on May 3rd (actually as soon as I finish writing the papers) while my fellow 3Ls are enduring finals.
