SA at Regional Firm vs. SEC Honors Program

So offers expire in the next week or so. 1L, top 5% at MVP.

SEC Honors Program (yes, it is paid) vs. SA at a big regional firm (pay = $2000/week).

Obviously, following the money would lead to the SA position, but am wondering about the relative 'prestige' level of the two jobs. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Personally, if the firm is stable, I'd go for that. I've heard it's much harder to go from government to private practice than the other way around.

The answer is extremely subjective. Tell us more about your career goals.

If you want to work in government after graduation, you should strongly consider the SEC gig. Otherwise, the SA is probably the way to go.

Also, it is absurd that 1Ls are being offered SA gigs when there are 2Ls who still don't have employment. Congratulations anyway, though.

If there is even a slight chance you'd consider working at the firm after graduation, take it. 1L "prestige" jobs are largely a joke--no one is going to hire you based solely on your 1L job. However, a 1L SA job might result in a permanent offer.

OP, please send me a PM. I'm going to the SEC. If you join me, you will have a very interesting summer. If this is a difficult decision for you, please step aside and let someone take your spot at the SEC. A lot of people would kill for this opportunity.
