Top Law Schools

We have a database of judges at my school but I don't think it is comprehensive. Is there somewhere where I could look up names and addresses for all federal judges (for judicial internship applications)?

Try the internet. You wouldn't believe the crazy amounts of information available. You can like totally go to this website located at http://www.google.com and enter the name of a court. Then it give you a list of "links" to the court's website. If you go to that, you can click on the "Judges" "link" and you will get a list of judges. Then you can write down the names of the judges, research where the judge went to school, get the address of where to contact the judges, etc.. Or you could go to TLS and hope some eager to please person will do this work for you.

Thanks for the completely unhelpful asshat reply.. I was looking for something similar University of Arizona ("UA") handbook (http://www.law.arizona.edu/career/honorshandbook.cfm), which collaborates all the information about all US government employers (such as deadlines, where and who to apply to, etc), and saves a boatload of time in comparison to visiting every US government employers website, finding all this information and then applying. Pretty much every school subscribes to the UA handbook. I guess if you can't already tell I am not just trying to intend to something like 5 judges, but 50-100 judges. I think there is something equivalent to the UA handbook for judicial internships out there (I recall seeing this somewhere, I was just hoping someone could help by posting a link to this information).

Most career services offices have a copy of "The American Bar" which contains a list of every state and federal judge by circuit, and district with phone numbers and addresses. You can use that. Or pick a district, search it online, and most have easy to navigate pages with all the info.

I used both.

Be sure to indicate in your cover letter to the judge that you will only research an issue of law if someone else has "collaborated" the relevant caselaw for you.

(Also, do you really go out and research cases to find out the general law in an area where there is a restatement that did all that work for you? Or alternatively (since you are probably a 0L), do you go out and drive around trying to figure out what is going on in the world as oppose to simply reading a newspaper?)

I'll save you a shitload of time and advise you not to apply for judicial internships. Your understading of jurisprudence and efficient research of any kind is clearly lacking. Time required to locate the names and contact info of hundreds of judges in dozens of circuits/districts <<<<<<<begging for info on TLS/arguing with me.

After the reception this topic got on TLS, I'll be interested to see what (if any) response this garners on XO.

If there is one, I definitely haven't found it. I do suggest that you try looking at the webpage for the particular district of interest, as occasionally they have them listed in some organized fashion (although often you have to go judge by judge). For example, the federal district for the northern district of california actually has an online submission where you can check off all of the judges that you're applying to and submit to everyone in one fell swoop.

My school had a list it provided for each district but often the excel spreadsheet was out of date and some of the addresses were wrong or formatted strangely.

Won't someone please do a google search on behalf of this industrious would-be judicial intern? Is there no decency? No compassion? I did a search that took less than 30 seconds and located a goldmine of info, but I'm too busy "reinventing the wheel" to post them here. Maybe XO will have more empathy than you scumbags.

Why don't you simply look at the 4th post on here, dickhead? Something like that is what I was looking for (i.e. a compiled list of judges), not someone to go through websites and post up judges addresses for me. I don't even know where you got the idea that I was looking for the latter.
