Double spaced or single? Career services says double, writing prof says single to make it look shorter. I tend to trust the latter more but thought I'd get a bigger sample size.

Hmm... my samples aren't longer than 10 pages to begin with, they'd probably look ridiculously short if I single spaced them then. Thanks!

I say double ... I'm right at 10 pages, which even seems to long to me for an effective writing sample.

I have an application that calls for a writing sample no longer than five pages - my memo that I've been using is 10. In this case, it's fine to do single space or 1.25, right? Or should I actually cut out sections? I'm inclined to do the former.

we were told to cut sections (just say the section title then "omitted") before doing any font/spacing trickery

Okay, thanks. What sections were you told to cut first? Statement of facts, question presented, etc.? My discussion alone is about 6 1/2 pages.

i think i would leave the discussion as intact as possible. cut question presented first, then conclusion (if you even have it), then brief answer, then facts, then i guess you go to the 2nd/3rd/4th issues of a multi-issue memo.
