Best Way to Send a Resume Update

Hi everyone,
I am waiting on decisions from NYU and BU, and I want to send them a resume update because I have actually been doing some unanticipated and incredible work the past few months.
My question is, would it be appropriate to send it as in a sort of addendum format, describing what I am currently doing in a few paragraphs, or is it necessary to simply add it on to the resume I have already sent? I would prefer to explain it in a few paragraphs, as there is a lot of information I want to get across, but I am not sure if this is a faux pas of some kind.
Any advice would be great. Thanks!
