I know I can't be the only one heading here next fall. I'm pretty excited to move to a different part of the state that has something... resembling baseball.

Pending an unlikely acceptance at GMU, I think I'll be there with ya.

Just got back from Pittsburgh. I got a pretty awesome studio apartment in Shadyside from Mozart Mgmt. Super nice people over there.

This thread is so sad

I'm very excited for Pitt in the fall! Looking for an apartment? Not really. I have to do everything from Florida, so I don't think it's going to be fun. When is everyone moving to Pitt? I'm aiming for 8/01 but might end up there in July

My lease starts on August 1st, but I'm gonna move down a day or two later to avoid the rush. While I'm really looking forward to moving, I'm NOT looking forward to shopping for furniture. Ikea's gonna be a freaking nightmare...

Dean McCall just sent me an email asking about my deposit/if I was still interested in attending...apparently my WD email never got there. It was kind of awkward...

To give this thread a shot in the arm, here's Ben Roethlisberger to welcome us to Pittsburgh!

Ouch, super awkward.

I love IKEA and I will bravely face the crowds for it. We only have one in Florida [maybe we have more now], but it's five hours from where I live! So all of my furniture now is all crappy off Craig's List. I can't wait for some cheap IKEA furniture!

Hi Everyone,

According to the admitted students packet, we should be getting info for our pitt.edu email account in April. Anyone received anything yet?

Yes, I got it last week. I was kind of annoyed that they picked my email for me since UF let us choose ours before. I tried to get in to the account but was unable to. However, the info was sent to my parent's address and they live over 300 miles away so my mom was reading it to me over the phone so I may have misheard her. She's sending me the actual paper now so I'll see if I can access it.

I got it last week too. It's a little weird, considering I thought it'd be my initials, but it wasn't so it threw me off a little.

Hmm... I suppose this means mine is lost in the mail. :?

Really? Mine is my initials, but they threw an 89 on the end. I don't know where that came from because I was definitely not born in '89 ...

Maybe yours isn't lost. They might have sent it to your permanent address if you're in school right now. I guess you could call them.

Mine is my initials with a random number at the end. It's also a little weird how we have to have a symbol in our e-mail password. The letter was sent to my home address (not my school address), by the way.

Anywho, I'm quite excited about next year. I'm planning on figuring out the apartment thing in early June - I'm sorta bogged down with graduation and whatnot right now.

You must have a common last name. I've faced that same problem in undergrad. Anyone looked at Bloomfield for apartments? It sounds like shadyside and squirrel hill are where everyone lives but it seems more expensive there.

I'm looking at Bloomfield, but I kind of want to live in Shadyside! And I'm debating whether or not having a roommate for at least the first year would be a good idea. I'm kind of scared to move so far from home and not know anyone or where anything is. When I went to undergrad, my entire circle of friends went to our state school so I never really had to make new friends. My roommates are even my high school friends!

And my last name is SO common, it's ridiculous. I always end up in classes with people who have my last name

I just graduated from Pitt undergrad this past Sunday (going to law school elsewhere), and I can honestly say I'm going to miss the city and Oakland more than anything. Get ready to change your eating schedules because every lovin' restaurant in the neighborhood cuts their prices in half after 11 PM.

P.S. @ Dr. Foom, the Buccos actually have the slightest glimmer of hope for the playoffs this year, and tickets are like 8 bucks at one of the nicest ballparks in America, you really can't beat it.

So I'm making plans to visit Pittsburgh at the end of this month to find an apartment for August, or possible July if I really like something. I'm having trouble deciding how long I should go for? This is a silly question to ask, but how long has it taken others to find apartments? Or am I jumping the gun and no one has really gone yet?

Similar sort of thing... I'll be moving to Pittsburgh with my girlfriend. She wants to wait until she and her mom get a chance to actually visit an apartment before picking one. This won't be until late June or early July. Will this be too late? I'd rather just figure it out now but she really doesn't feel comfortable signing a lease without seeing the place.

From my experience it has been fairly easy to find an apartment around Pitt, I would say you will be fine if you make it here in July. There are tons of aparment buildings in Shadyside and North Oakland that seem to always have available spaces. There are numerous housing options depending on the area you want and the price you are looking to pay. I have lived in Oakland and Bloomfield, plus have many friends living in Shadyside, Squirrel Hill, and Point Breeze; so if you have any questions about the neighborhoods I will try my best to help.

And I don't believe I have posted it anywhere here but I was accepted off the waitlist at Pitt last week so I will also be joining everyone here in the Class of 2012.

I just got my letter about our $300 deposit. Ouch. But that got me wondering about financial aid. I haven't received much from the financial office other than a form email that I think everyone got. Has anyone gotten any actual info from them about loans? When are we applying for gradplus and all that? I've tried emailing them, but the fin aid office does not seem to like me.

I got that letter too, and I saw that there were folks like former talk show hosts in our class. I think I'm gonna feel a bit overwhelmed considering the most impressive line on my resume is "Unpaid Obama Intern", and even that's stretching it.

And no, I haven't heard jack about loans from them.

Maybe knowing that out of 245 people in our class, only a handful have done all of those wonderful things will make you feel better! My resume isn't too impressive either - one club officer position and working in a restaurant.

I was trying to use their website to navigate financial aid once I was signed in with my pitt.edu address, but I find it confusing. I think UF's website is much more navigable and I never thought I'd believe that!

I'm glad I'm not behind on my loan applications or anything. I hope they send us info soon!
