So I already put down both of my seat deposits for UNC. Unless one other school blows me away with a huge scholarship, I will be attending UNC this fall.
So is anyone joining me?

I went to the ASD day last week and it went well. As of now it looks like I am going to live in the Villages at Chapel Hill. How about you?

If you guys are willing to put rivalries aside, we have a pretty good apartment discussion going on in the Duke 2012 thread. Most of the ones I am looking at are about halfway between Duke and UNC. We could probably all benefit from the collaboration.

I'm sure Duke fans are eager to do that now.

Guess not then. Never mind, forget I mentioned it.
(In any case, you still have two golden opportunities to lose. We can only hope.

Below is a post I submitted in the Duke 2012 forum in response to a question about housing from one of you guys.
Here's a map (LinkRemoved) of some complexes compiled in a pdf that I found from the UNC pharmacology program website. It's a good guideline for some graduate housing options, and the areas highlighted there are all pretty decent. You can look for more stuff in those general areas. Get much closer to campus, and you'll end up in undergrad territory. There are also A LOT of duplexes, townhouses, and smaller apartment complexes that are just right for graduate students. The only problem is that you kinda have to go to them in order to check them out. I'd look at local newspaper ads (online, see links below) for stuff in the area.

P.S. Go Heels!!

I just got accepted about a week and a half ago after an awesome visit. Enrolling in dual degree with social work, so likely going into some sort of juvi/family/adoption law, but no strings attached for social work school so I can change my mind at any time.
Anyone else on here out-of-stater?!?
Oh, and living with boyfriend who is enrolling at Duke for engineering/business grad degree ... coming down in May to see apts! Any suggestions for affordable stuff b/c the two rivals?

Congrats! I went to Duke UG and am going to UNC LS, so this is just my suggestion about apartments. Living in Durham is cheaper than living in CH, so you may want to consider living in Durham and commuting. The only problem would be the parking situation at UNC - 1Ls don't get permits. If you do live in Durham, though, you can always take the Robertson Scholars bus for free, or there's a possibility you can drive to CH and use a park-and-ride. Of course, I have no idea what you consider affordable. If you're moving from NYC or DC or somewhere, then anywhere in CH is probably comparatively affordable.
Based on the ASD, it sounds like students live all over. One student on the panel said she lives in Raleigh, one in Durham, and I think another may have mentioned having friends in Hillsborough. Of those, Durham is likely the cheapest and most convenient. The students did make the usual warning about avoiding popular UG apartment complexes (can't remember which ones these are), so that's something else to consider in your search.

Thanks for the reply! Definitely wanting to stay away from the UGs - was a great time, but after being out of school for a little while I guess it's just not my style anymore

Good to know about the parking situation on campus for 1Ls as well, might be incentive to live somewhere close to the bus.
I weeped a little when I saw rent prices ... I live in downtown Boston and for less than half of what we pay for a small, old (in a quaint way!) apartment up here, we could have a gorgeous 1 bed in a complex somewhere in CH/Durham. I'll always be a northeastern gal at heart, but bring on the hush puppies, cheap rent, and at-home parking!

I went to the first ASD. A student on the panel said Carrboro was the cheapest and really close. I will be living in Durham
Sent in my deposit today

When I visited the tour guide said Carrboro was "Granola-y." I'd love to live there but it's on the wrong side of CH for my other half.
Deposit going in tomorrow!!

My wife and I just leased a duplex in Carrboro. It's exactly 3 miles from the Law School. It's right on the "F" busline, which should get me within 0.6 miles of the law school. I figure I'll just walk the remainder. Can't hurt me.
I'm also planning on getting a bike and riding it to class some as well.

We are selling our house in Charlotte. We wanted to buy in the Chapel Hill area, but without any income (my wife is in school full time as well) apart from loans, no one will give us a mortgage. Downsizing sucks!

Buy my house!
2br/2bath located in Durham county on the Chapel Hill border. No city taxes. Quiet neighborhood. Will allow me to move to Athens.
