We'll miss you at UCD next year, but I don't think many people will blame you for opting for the T14. Congrats on getting into GULC, man. As for the email, I'm not really worried about it. My plan is just to have it all auto-forwarded to my Gmail anyhow, so I may as well keep using said Gmail account in the meantime.Splitt3r wrote:The undergrad e-mail is step-up on a gmail platform, so the two e-mails being the same and the law e-mail being "essentially" gmail wouldn't be mutually exclusive.cantstop wrote:Lame. Double lame. At least you got it resolved.Splitt3r wrote:I'm going to go ahead and guess that you can't set up you're e-mail yet, because UC Davis took the awesome step of actually disabling my ucdavis.edu e-mail address for a bit there because I was deposited at the law school and they somehow thought that my status as a pending student overrode my status as someone who still needed to access their damn e-mail.
And, isn't UC Davis law e-mail different than undergrad? Or am I mistaken? I thought they said at ASD that the Law e-mail is essentially gmail, which is good because if it wasn't I would just set it up to forward to my gmail.
Btw, I'm almost settled on going to G'town over Davis, I just need to see if the finances are going to work out. Happy and sad at the same time.

Just backed out of signing my lease with Cambridge House Apartments. They are dishonest, corporate swindlers, FYI.
Still in the market for a 2 bedroom within 2 miles of the law school.

I got a seat deposit extension which ends today. Since deposit payment is made online, does anyone know if it has to be paid by a certain time on the deadline or is it midnight PST? Thanks.

The construction they're doing on the law school looks like it's coming along well. I took some pictures that I'll post up when I get home.

Ok, I'm going up to Davis to visit this week! I'm so excited to see the campus/city. Anyone have any suggestions on what to see/where to go while I'm there?

Walk around downtown. You can park downtown and walk to school but parking is limited to 90 min or 2 hours then you have to move to a new block. I would buy the $6 parking pass and park in Visitor Parking (VP lot) #5. from here you can easily walk to King through the arboretum, walk through the quad and see the student union, etc. Also you're right by 1st and A streets and can cruise downtown. you'll find a wide variety of restaurants, shops, et.c between 1st and 4th and A and G streets. All absolutely walkable, in fact I recommend parking and walking as much as possible, until you start looking at apartments, etc.SDGirl wrote:Ok, I'm going up to Davis to visit this week! I recommend this site for anyone exploring Davis, Daviswiki.org.
Have fun.

If this is your 1st experience with the UC system, you might be shocked at some of the bureaucratic miscommunications that occur.SadButTrue wrote:I got an open house for admitted students info booklet today... random because the open house dates are for April...

Yeah I'm pretty pumped. The more I start thinking about UCD, the more excited I get. I grew up in Sac and really love the area.

Re: UC Davis 2012
been reading up on davis using the daviswiki.org site...what a great resource...
i've started browsing for housing online and have come across all sorts of postings on the wiki site...lots of negative reviews about property management companies and apartment complexes...seems like there are a lot of slumlords and non-responsive management companies renting poorly maintained old homes that are falling apart and are roach and/or rodent infested...
does anyone know which area in davis has newer homes and is quiet?..i am concerned about undergrad parties and noise at night...also trying to avoid dirty, run-down properties...
any ideas are appreciated!

Re: UC Davis 2012
I had a really negative experience with one complex, and the tough thing is trying to cut through the bullshit that property managers feed you in order to lock you into a year-long lease. My best advice is to use daviswiki as a resource (in terms of reviews, etc.) and be persistent. Read the fine print and don't be afraid to keep looking.jibstir13 wrote:been reading up on davis using the daviswiki.org site...what a great resource...

I find when I talk to people who went to Davis as undergrads that things tend to be a bit louder within about a 1 mile radius of the University. It sucks because you want to be closeby, but it seems as though you've got to look a bit further away for anything that seems more residential and quiet. There are exceptions to this rule, obviously, case-in-point Arlington Farms, which is in West Davis and a good several miles away from the university, and it is generally known as the "Sophomore Dorms."
In terms of living in a real house vs. an apartment, I don't know much about finding a house in Davis, since it seems that most housing is in apartments or townhomes, but I'm sure craigslist and chl.ucdavis.edu are your best bets to find something. Hope this was helpful!

Re: UC Davis 2012
newer homes and quiet: South and West Davis areas are newer. East davis is very quiet as well. the further you get from uni the more neighborhood-y the areas get. quiet is pretty easy if you check out the areas you'll be able to see which look family oriented etc.jibstir13 wrote:been reading up on davis using the daviswiki.org site...what a great resource...

Congrats to all! I just received my final decision in the mail-- it was a rejection-- so it definitely looks like Davis will be home for the next three years! I'm getting ready to put down my second deposit and everything (just to get it out of the way)!nmoor1501 wrote:I just got in, and I am soooo stoked. My hand have just stopped shaking! I went online and bought a UCD sweatshirt, and I'm pretty excited for it to arrive.
I'm pretty cheap, so dropping $40 on a hoodie was my way of saying "OK Northwestern/Duke/GULC/Mich/UCLA, I'm not holding my breath about these waitlists of yours. A fella's gotta make plans!"
