Yes, I am lucky and certainly appreciate my luck.

I don't believe Fordham can force you (as of now--the law could change) to get health insurance. I vaguely remember the cost being around $1,500 a year (it's on my home computer somewhere and was on Fordham's website...) with the Birchwood (? It was definitely a type of tree) Group. Not sure about the coverage (hadn't heard of them--I'm myself have had UHC and Empire), but the cost is (relatively speaking) not that bad.

(Ninja Edit: I clearly like parethenses)

Thanks, Fledgling. I believe FIT required us to show proof of insurance or buy theirs, so I assumed there was a law of some sort on the books. I will call the health center and see what they tell me.

Beech Street Network (I was a little bit close).

http://www.fordham.edu/campus_resources ... e_1526.asp

"All students are required to enter here https://secure.visit-aci.com/insurance/fordham to complete the Health eU on-line Insurance Registration Process. During this process, you will be asked to either provide information on your current medical insurance coverage, purchase the Fordham sponsored Student Insurance Plan, or complete a brief opinion survey. (Note: you will be re-directed to a secure website). Information regarding this coverage is available at the Office of International Students at (718) 817-3145 or (212) 636-6270. All other students are strongly encouraged to have health insurance coverage. The University makes available a reasonably priced additional accident and sickness plan through a private insurance company. Registered students should receive an application in the mail mid-August. Additional insurance applications are available at both the Rose Hill and Lincoln Center campuses."

*Fall Semester enrollment via site portal updated 08/05/09. Registration or Enrollment issues should be directed to USI at (800) 322-9901

Ah, perfect. You have your trees in order. :D

I guess this means I don't have to buy insurance right away, if I can't get the school's insurance.

Thanks, Fledgling.

OS and everyone else. I would strongly recommend getting some type of health insurance as soon as possible. You just never know when a sickness can arise or something can happen. Especially during 1L year, you don't want to deal with that mess. An extra 1,500 a year is a small price to pay on your health! Better safe than sorry.

Ah, Sentinal, your concern is thoughtful, as usual. If anything should happen to me, you can have my E&Es.

I'm actually on the subway as I type this. My counterpart at Columbia is sitting right across from me. She has a bag from their bookstore, and she's wearing more swag than I even own. I wonder if she feels the way we do.

I had the most delicious champagne last night, but I think I might have given my friends some unedited opinions about their schools. I really hope I didn't say what I think I said.

Four more days! My god...

+1. Oh yeah. Particularly if you're moving from out of state. New germs + stress = you need somebody to prescribe you antibiotics. I get bronchitis way too often not to have *some* kind of health insurance; it's worth paying less in rent to me.

Oh I did that once. I was silently, inwardly mortified at myself (it was NYLS related... I said I hoped Ms. X wasn't paying full price... the girl wasn't there, but I still felt bad about it).

And what kind of champagne? I need to add some variety to my wine/sangria habit.

And my company cuts me off on my last day. :x Thankfully, my mom's plan will now cover me :D
You're lucky! I never had insurance through my job, even when I worked full time. I had a lot of flexibility, but no benefits. :(

If the school will let me, I might go longer without it. I know that's probably a stupid thing to do, but I'm thinking about all that debt...

Is anyone else in this situation? Ideally an affordable plan exists somewhere.
I spent so much unnecessary money on my UG health insurance and decided not to purchase one this time
My foreign health insurance covers me upto 120 days after I leave the country and Im hoping I will not have any serious illness or injuries in the remaining few days between aug 17th and dec 22 :|

It was pink prosecco (technically not champagne, but Italian sparkling wine.) Insanely delicious at $13.99 a bottle. I'll PM you if I can find the label, but we should have some at the party.

I know how you feel. I think I also toasted Fordham a few times.

I then attempted to help my friend J pick schools for her BF's cycle. I think the conversation consisted of "go to Fordham or NYU."

Anyone know if we get any special metrocard discount from the school? I will be completely dependent on the MTA and wonder if Fordham hooks us up somehow someway?
:?:

Everyone in the evening program should friend one another so we can find each other. <3

I never realized that TLS had a "friend feature," but good idea!

Oh, I meant on Facebook. Most of us are in the Fordham group already. Did you join?

I know its true for other cities' transit (Chicago comes to mind) but I get the feeling that it isn't for New York's MTA. Not 100% on this though.

Though, all things considered the subway's fairly affordable as is.

I think there's next to no chance Fordham will do anything for subway riders. Get an unlimited monthly!

For those who bought their books already; did you guys buy new or used books? Which one would you recommend? Is it faster to complete readings with a used book, because the most important parts might be highlighted/underlined already?

Yes I just joined earlier this week! There were several of them -- but the main one is the one that says 2012/2013 right?

I've only gotten one book so far, and I bought it used from a law student friend. I'm going to try to buy most of my books used, for financial reasons. Some of the law students I know have said they appreciated getting an already highlighted/underlined book; I'm not sure whether this would help you complete readings faster, though.

i have one book from a friend as well, and this person underlined/took notes in the margin...i find it to be pretty distracting to be honest, but may just be a personal preference

Just a heads up, there's a new reading up on the admitted students website that we're supposed to read before the start of orientation, for the skills workshop. It's a 4 page long case.
