Re: Texas Class of 2012
Hey guys,
This may not apply to anyone here, but I received an E-Mail from Texas's financial aid office telling me that they had received my Fasfa and will be sending me my award soon.
The thing is, I haven't been accepted and I don't have the stats to be accepted. I went to undergrad here, but is this some formality that the fin. aid office sends to every student?

I know my numbers just barely got me in, and I shouldn't hope for money but could a 167/3.8 get any scholarship
(in-stater)? Also how are grants distributed?

We're out of town for the week, but I'll check my mail next Sunday. When is the reception?Esc wrote:If that is the case, then brittany should be receiving one soon.joesrevenge wrote:chadstew55 wrote:Well, me and Esc are both in Austin, so just give it some time.

Yeah, I was considering going to it even though I'm not going to the other ASD events. I'm not sure if that's ok, though, or if it is just for people who RSVPed for the ASD.Esc wrote:after the scheduled events on ASD

Re: Texas Class of 2012
Has anyone received an email that their financial aid award was ready? I did and when I checked the amounts they are way less than the COA. I'm kind of confused because I thought the school would allow you to get loans up to the COA. I don't have any savings after my husband went through a layoff recently so... yeah... gonna need some loans for living expenses since I'm not gonna be working.

I haven't received mine yet but in browsing around, it seems like some schools are not including GradPlus Loans with their initial offer. From my understanding, you can always take out GradPlus Loans (assuming sufficient credit) up to the COA.

just got mine, and including grad plus loans is horrendously low...not even enough for tuitionElms wrote:Has anyone received an email that their financial aid award was ready? For those of you getting your financial aid letters, when did you get the e-mail that UT has received/will begin processing your application?

Re: Texas Class of 2012
Here's Grad Plus loan info from the UT website:
"Graduate students have a new federal loan option to assist them with the costs of a graduate education, the Graduate PLUS loan. This loan allows graduate students to borrow funds up to the Cost of Attendance less their other financial aid and resources, such as scholarships, teaching assistantships, assistant instructorships and fellowships (if applicable)."
http://www.utexas.edu/law/depts/finaid/ ... dplus.html
So again, it seems as though the Grad Plus is unlimited in amount. However, since they are credit-based, the school may not want to include them (in their entirety) with their initial letter. Of course, if this is true, it would make more intuitive sense (to me anyway) to omit the Grad Plus possibility altogether as opposed to offering a partial amount. Something seems a little screwy. I'll post my info when I get the letter.

Re: Texas Class of 2012
so apparently I had a lapse of brain last night, there are two places where you can see your award, on the one I misread where the total line was....applepie wrote:just got mine, and including grad plus loans is horrendously low...not even enough for tuitionElms wrote:Has anyone received an email that their financial aid award was ready? Got in on 3/17. I never scrolled down to the bottom of my status checker, so I found out today because of the ASW e-vite. Although I'm waiting on a grip of schools to respond, I'm pleased with my UT Austin acceptance and would go there gladly.
I'll have questions at some point. But I just wanted to say hello to the rest of you.
Cheers.

Thanks, D. I want to attend the ASD, but I just found out about my acceptance. Tix and lodging will be expensive. If I can figure out the logistics, I will be there. We'll see.davidin wrote:Congrats OA! You gonna try and make it to the ASW?OperaAttorney wrote:Got in on 3/17. oh, and hello back!
By the way, UT Austin is the one school I predicted would reject me . I'm from California and wasn't sure UT would like me enough. This acceptance is huge because I intend to make TX my home after law school. I love Houston, which I've visited several times. Have any Texans here visited the Houston Grand Opera? It's a lovely opera house, and its director has a thing for certain operas that I love.

My finaid includes grad plus loans. Maybe they adjust those up if the rest of your finaid doesn't cover everything?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
