seriously, this will all get sufficiently stressful soon enough. enjoy some time off!espresso wrote:Merry Memorial Day all.
So, does it seem weird to anyone else that the whole loan process still hasn't begun? Aside from FAFSA and NYU Fin Aid applications, of course.
I can't help but re-check the Financial Aid application FAQs, and yeah it actually does say "The loan application process begins in mid-June. Our office will provide additional information on the loan application process to enrolling students in late-May or early-June." Guess I should expect a mailing in the next week or so......

Does anyone know about the best cell phone carriers in NY? I have sprint and am debating about signing a new contract for the palm pre, but I heard sprint's coverage is subpar in NY. Is that true? Any thoughts?

Verizon and ATT are both great in NYC. I've heard mixed reactions concerning Sprint.

Anyone know how long it should take after they receive our tax forms for them to confirm that we are indeed getting the package we were initially told?

According to the website classes start on the 26th. This means orientation is a week long. Does anyone know what on earth takes 7 days to orient us about? My roommate who did it last year said his was only 3 days.

Funny, I was thinking it would probably take me about one full semester to get oriented

Anyone else feeling down about the tuition increase? I'm still excited to come but looking at the tuition numbers at the schools I'd been considering now I may have gone the other way...
2k isn't much, but the entire COA budget went up by about 3k, and NYU was already the most expensive school I was looking at.

Re: NYU 2012
So I don't live in New York and am sort of terrified about moving to the city. Most of my fear stems from having to find a place.
I'm going to be moving in on August 1st, and I'll probably be driving down to the city on either the last weekend in June or the second weekend in July (the first weekend is out, since the 4th is that Saturday) to scope out apartments. Do you current city-dwellers think one or the other would be better? Should I set up appointments beforehand or just wing it once I'm down there?
I'm such a noob when it comes to this. I found my apartment in Boston in about an hour.... it was the most painless process ever.
Other than having to find an apartment, I'm pumped for school to start. I'm also excited to have almost 3 full weeks to kill in New York before orientation.... would anyone be down for some pre-school drinks?

Did anybody try to work on the loan process yet?
There appears to be nothing available for me to do in my NetPartner account.

Mine tells me I should have registered for something called selective service... I thought this had been cleared up a while back. I'm planning to call them on Monday to figure out what's going on.LjakW wrote:Did anybody try to work on the loan process yet?

Re: NYU 2012
I'm in a similar situation. Currently subletting in NYC, going home for 5 weeks, and then coming back August 1st and crashing in my old apt and moving as soon as a I find a place. Generally the turnover in the NYC from what I can gather is 2-4 weeks to get a place. If you come in June you may still be finding a lot of place that are looking for a July 1st move in, so I would recommend the second weekend in July, and worst case scenario, come back the following week? I'd try and set up a few things in advance just so you have a starting point. Do you know where you're looking to move and what kind of place you want? (studio, 1 bedroom etc)ezpar wrote:So I don't live in New York and am sort of terrified about moving to the city. Most of my fear stems from having to find a place.

Anyways I shall also be around for those three weeks(altho probably frantically searching for an apt) and would be down for TLS drinks.

Just filled out the MPN's for the stafford and other loans. Anyone know when and how we contact NYU to reduce the requested loans from the maximum amount?

Maybe I am dumb but where is our UIN located to log in to the NetPartner account. I know my NYU netID it is the form of abc123, but this does not work when trying to log in. I don't remember getting a university ID number.

Login to http://www.home.nyu.edu with your netID and then click on "preferences" in the upper right-hand corner. There you will find your University ID that I believe is used for the NetPartner account.gigm09 wrote:Maybe I am dumb but where is our UIN located to log in to the NetPartner account. Re: NYU 2012
I just completed the MPN notes for the Stafford and PLUS loans. I guess we didn't really have a choice in the matter of where we go the PLUS loans from? Oh well, I'm just glad I'm able to get loans to fund my education since I have no credit.
If anyone has any questions I'll try to help since I just went through it successfully. Good luck everyone! And hooray for paying 3k more this year!

Re: NYU 2012
Yah I called to clarify this. In contrast to years past, all GradPlus loans (and all Federal Loans in general; though Stafford, i believe, always went through NYU/Direct Loans) need to go basically right through NYU, and you have no choice in terms of actual lender. Which is annoying in that you may lose a point or two in overall %s with origination fees etc, but may be made up for in convenience.dbt wrote:I just completed the MPN notes for the Stafford and PLUS loans. Re: NYU 2012
About time I saw this thread bumped again. The CLS thread pops up like every 2 seconds with a new post about crappy on-campus housing, or whatever. They are on page 69 or something. We are on 14. Maybe it's cause we don't have anything to complain about... Or we have lives outside of TLS...
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
