I'm 169, 3.8 and received a phone call from Dean Richards.

I'm 3.9 168 and got a call as well.

so I know the packages haven't come yet, but if there is no housing included (PLEASE GW GIVE US A YEAR OF HOUSING!!!) where/what is everyone thinking about housing?

I'm pretty fond of The Aston - at least from what I've read about it.

I got a phone call as well, and I'm 163/3.9.

I can't wait to get our info packet. I sure wouldn't mind a year of free housing! I'm contemplating calling the admissions office and asking/begging/bartering for housing in the Aston.

Just thought I'd throw in my 2 cents about housing at GW (i'm an undergrad here now, though didn't apply for LS here)...if you can get free housing in the Aston, go for it. It's gorgeous, and halfway between Foggy Bottom and DuPont, so it is close to the school and to many restaurants/nightlife options as well. However, if you find that you have to pay for housing yourself, I think the Aston is far too expensive for what you actually get. You can get a nice room in one of the many apartment complexes around there for equal money, and there are many cheaper options if you are willing to commute from elsewhere in DC or Arlington. Congrats to those of you accepted!

As a GW Law Presidential Merit Scholar, you will be given priority if you wish to live in the Aston for your first academic year (at your expense).

I have to say I'm a bit disappointed that GW isn't doing the housing thing they did in past years for us EDers.

Marburger, or anyone else who knows: any advice on finding reasonably priced housing in DC?

There is some reasonbly priced housing in the Cap Hill/Eastern Market area, and just across the river from GW in the Roslyn/Arlington area.

I go to GW undergrad now. As I'm sure you can imagine, housing around here is very pricey. Some of my friends found townhouses around 24th and 25th Streets (a block off campus) that are really cute and at 700 - 800/month cost less than many apartments. I applied ED and got in RD and if I end up here I might to do that.

Accepted RD. Probably going, waiting on scholarship $$. I plan on commuting from Annapolis.

Thanks for the housing info! I'm going to start looking more in-depth in a few months, but the Aston DOES seem overpriced. Something like $15K/9 months?

Also, anyone having trouble coming up with the $1500 seat deposit??

When I lived in DC last year, I found a great place on Craigslist. That's probably the route I'll go, because I'd rather live in a cheaper townhome with character than a sterile luxury apartment, anyway The location will be most important, though - I'd like to be pretty close to school the first year.

so what about columbia plaza? the smaller two bedroom looks really nice imo and is only $1300 (i can't believe i said only followed $1300 but compared to what you get at the Aston for your money....) i really want to be close to campus and preferably live with/near other grad students.

Columbia Plaza is really nice. The rooms I have seen there are pretty big (by DC standards anyway) and some of the rooms have great views of the Kennedy Center. There are a lot of grad students there, but also a lot of undergrads, so it can get noisy on weekends. However, its location is ideal (halfway between the metro and the law school) and there are a bunch of little take-out places and a liquor store right downstairs

Columbia Plaza is pretty nice, but every building is different (there are 5 altogether). If you can find/afford an apartment in the Envoy, DO IT- the views of the Kennedy Center are literally to die for!

I have lived in DC for four years since graduating from college and can state pretty definitely that the area right around the GW campus is a lame place to live. I live near the U Street Metro and love it, and there are plenty of other cool neighborhoods within walking and biking distance of the campus. The thing to remember about DC is that it's a really small city. Though GW is somewhat "across town" from where I live now, it's actually only 2 miles or so.

If you can do a sublet for a few months to get to know the city before getting locked into a lease, I'd recommend that. You'll be happier if you take a little time to get to know which areas you like.

I'm so excited that I can finally join this site. GW is my first choice so I'm definitely going.

Got in PT with 163/3.37 somehow and plan on transferring FT. Does anyone know how easy this is to do?
