Jwatson, do you think I have a decent shot with gpa above 3.4 and 164? Wisconsin is one of my top choices even though I'm out of state.

Yes I think you have a very good chance. Just make sure you stand out somehow or you may end up on the WL.

First, best of luck to all of the recent dings and waitlists in the rest of your cycle. Also, good luck to those still hanging on.
Madison, I love ya' but c'mon. Y'all startin' to freak me out here. I've been sitting here thinking my 164/3.5 and the diversity of being a brain injured prospective law student would get me in for sure. Now, I'm not feeling secure.

Just got my decision today... waitlisted! I thought I'd be rejected, especially judging by the others' decisions on here. I'll get my LOCI out immediately, and then hope for the best!

Thoughts on 161s? I feel like I'm starting to be a 161/Wisco Law troll and believe me, lol, that's not my intention. Just nervous as I read LSN data.Jwatson wrote:If you're the average kid, then yes you would need a 162+high GPA.Archon wrote:From the looks of it, the diversity Wisconsin is seeking from non-URMs is 162 or higher with a solid UGPA. Seems like last year and the year prior, 161s with above medians GPAs always got in. Non URMs or anything. 161s below about 3.5 seemed to fare poorly.

Re: Wisconsin-Madison 2012!!!
Seems like they're WL a lot of people in their 25-50 range. I bet they are using a wall. I reckon a 160 with a good gpa will get in ultimately simply because a lot of those higher LSATs (especially the out-of-state ones) will bounce to Minnesota, Duke, etc.
Stiff upper lip, homies.
By the by, I suspect Wisconsin has a high in-state ratio because they basically give you perma in-state status if you graduated from a state high school. I've spent about 8 days there since 2004 -- still a resident by statute. I doubt it really means anything as far as quotas.

Re: Wisconsin-Madison 2012!!!
So do we think that a out of state, 161 / 3.61 has a shot at breaking through that wall? It seems that 161's seem to fair well, but I'm curious as to everyone else thinks. (sorry, this is kinda a "what are my chances?" type request)BobDole34 wrote:Thoughts on 161s? I feel like I'm starting to be a 161/Wisco Law troll and believe me, lol, that's not my intention. Re: Wisconsin-Madison 2012!!!
Time to solicit some LOCI help-- although my LSAT is below the median (I will disregard the wall), I cannot stress enough how badly I want to go to Wisconsin. Is there a level of emotion/emphasis I should be putting into this letter? I feel like it'd be hard to translate how I feel about the school onto paper without sounding like a total buffoon.

Katz- This is a bit much but seriously: re-take the LSAT in June. Get a 161+. I don't think there is much historical evidence on LSN to back up a 157 getting in off the WL.

Re: Wisconsin-Madison 2012!!!
Last year one person was waitlisted with those numbers but many others (although slightly higher GPAs, like 3.65-4.0) got in. The guy waitlisted had terrible luck according to LSN with other WLs so I think he might be fudging some numbers or had some application problem. Either way, looking at last year, there is a WALL of 161 admits above about 3.5. This year, and every single site shows the same thing, there hasn't been a single 161 reported. Go look now at LSN: tons of 160s and 162s. Nothing on 161.hoffb86 wrote:So do we think that a out of state, 161 / 3.61 has a shot at breaking through that wall? Obviously a bunch of the 164 and up will end up going elsewhere, so I can't see them keeping it as strict, but for my 161 brothers, I wish I had some better answers.

For those who are waitlisted: I sent in an LOCI today, but they mention in the letter to email them if you want; should I email as well, or is the letter enough? Thanks!

I did too and hadn't heard anything as of the beginning of January, so I sent them an e-mail. They replied saying my file was complete blah blah sorry they forgot to send me the e-mail. Anyways, maybe you could ask? I guess it would never hurt.kiwislug wrote:I applied start of December and still haven't heard anything, gahh

Re: Wisconsin-Madison 2012!!!
I heard from them today (talked to admissions office by phone). I'm guessing they finished another batch of decisions because she said they reached a decision on my file today (I went complete on 1/7). She wouldn't say what it was but judging by their commitment to diversity and quick turn-around, I'm guessing acceptance.

"judging by their commitment to diversity"
Yes, especially since they got caught photoshopping a black guy on to a mailing cover. (That was the school in general, not the law school).
