What's everyone bringing to Charlottesville and for those there, what do you recommend getting? This can be serious or not, just bring this board back to life.

I'm thinking this ...

This will probably sound crazy but my Mom's friends have that for on the boat, it's called port o pong or something.

I'm building a nice pine one for about $100. Was going to build a desk, but I don't think I'm going to have the time before I leave home.

Whatever, at UW I got those e-mails at least once a week. I'm sort of excited to be going to a school were these incidents don't happen that often.

The UW security notifications never listed the race of the attackers. Glad to see UVA does; I'm sick of all the political correctness in Seattle.

If you're ever bored during law school--you know, because you won't have much to do--maybe I'll hire you to build us a bedroom set :D

As for the Security Alert e-mail we just got, I second what Cavalier said. Between the "terrorist attack" and the murder of our SBP at school, and the growing gang presence in my hometown, Charlottesville is looking mighty safe to me.

Come to think of it, UW emails never contained "tips" to avoid attacks either. IMO, it's all about common sense. Closing the blinds is excessive, but as long as the doors and windows remain locked, this sort of stuff isn't going to happen.

Yeah hahah I find I don't even read those anymore after being so used to them in undergrad. It's kinda sad it didnt even phase me when I got that e-mail from UVA.

At my undergrad, I was unfortunate enough to be part of the daily security breifings...it was ridiculous how many incidents happened at my school (just a short distance away from UVA). The few times that we made things public was when there had been a crime spree, or when someone got put in the hospital critical care, or worse. The fact that they even made an announcement on something as tame as this like this is proof that UVA is safe--if this is as bad as it gets, wow!

On an unrelated note, have yall gotten your Promissory Notes and loan info yet? I've picked my lender, but so far I haven't heard anything from them...and am not quite sure what to do.

I remember one or two people saying they weren't enrolling in the school-sponsored Aetna health insurance plan because their current plans are better. What are these other plans? The Aetna premium ($2,092) seems pretty cheap to me, although I don't know how the details of the plan (deductibles, copayments, etc.) compare to other ones. They apparently haven't posted that info on their website yet.

I'm still looking into Anthem, but the first quote I got was ~$1500.

I have Anthem with a dental rider for $105 a month = $1260 per year. My deductible is $5000, but the coinsurance after deductible is 0% unlike the Aetna plan. In-system doctor visits are free (excluding the copay), and the total coverage limit is 5 million dollars (I think Aetna's is only 1 or 2 million).

Keep in mind that you will still get FREE access to the student health center even without the Aetna plan.

This is odd news. I really hope it turns out to be some sort of mistake:

Thanks for the info. The lower premium and lack of coinsurance is certainly nice, but that deductible sounds insanely high. I think Aetna's was $125 last year. Seems like a tough decision because most years I"m sure I wouldn't be paying anywhere near $5,000 in coinsurance, but in the event I needed some major operation or something Anthem would probably be preferable.

EDIT: On the other hand, chances are I won't even be paying near $800 out of pocket if I picked Anthem, so I'd still be under the Aetna premium and save money. Anthem is probably better choice.

If you are pretty healthy and don't have any major medical issues, Anthem is clearly better than the UVA Aetna plan.

Hmm...here's hoping to the economy picks up by our 2L oci's. It's crazy how worrying about getting into a top law school quickly translates into worrying about OCI and stuff.

Nope, it's accurate, they're not coming. I don't think they were ever listed as coming though so this isn't really a new story.

I guess it's fitting that the OCI interviews take place in Slaughter Hall.

So, if you're interested in Hunton, do you just get an automatic callback interview?

So heads up to anyone flying into Richmond (i have to for the bunny), enterprise now charges about 167$ for a one-way rental car and the other companies are just as bad from the pricing I've done. I had price-quoted earlier in the summer and the quote was $60-something. That is a huge difference! I called and they pretty much laughed at my earlier rate. I'm going to price some limo options, but may be offering money to anyone willing to pick us (bunny and me) up come August. Had I known that the rental would become such an issue, I would have flown into Dulles.

Sorry for the rant....all this impending moving planning is starting to pick at my nerves. Penske tried to lose my reservation for a nerve-racking 5 minutes when I called to confirm earlier today too!

So where are the cheap places in Cville to find furniture?
