Thanks!
Don't really want to go anywhere else other than UVA, just waiting on wait lits due to a significant other sorting out his final decision!

Anyone have an idea of how much the water, sewer, trash, electric, cable, and internet at Ivy Gardens comes to?

Hey,
So if my SIS site says that i am being offered X amount in Grad Plus and Y amount in stafford loans does that mean i have already qualified for the money?

Anyone thinking about getting a house off campus as opposed to a condo? It seems like there are plenty of 3 bedroom houses for just as cheap as a two bedroom apartment. Also does anyone know anything about Abbington Crossing?

nope to both, i think. i am still on waitlists haven't accepted my loans yet, anyway.stephinoakland wrote:Question about Seat Deposits!
Does UVA make you withdraw from pending/waitlist schools?
Do I have to accept my loans right away? I saw the post above re: by June 15th accepting them, I just don't want to get to deep in the process and then switch to another school.

1) No idea.reminiscent wrote:i'm pretty close to pulling the trigger, but i just need to know some things, as i was unable to go to both ASD's due to work:
1. is there a sizeable asian population at uva? (i'm sorry if some people don't like this question, and i certainly don't feel like asians are entitled to a certain percentage of spots at any given law school)
2. people always talk about the quality of student life at uva, referring to feb club, softball, and beer. i don't drink, and i dont do sports. how big is drinking in the school's culture? would someone like me be unhappy there?
2) I'm not a big drinker myself nor am I very athletic, but I still think I will be very happy there. I have no problem with others drinking, or being around others drinking though, and I plan to participate in softball a little even if I suck. I would guess that it all depends on your attitude and whether or not you try to be part of the community despite not being into some of the big things there.

Re: UVA Class of 2012
i'm asian, and i saw several other asians at asw and talked to members of uva apalsa. i'd say asians made up maybe a little less 10% of uva law. not a huge number, but enough that i didn't feel at all uncomfortable.reminiscent wrote:i'm pretty close to pulling the trigger, but i just need to know some things, as i was unable to go to both ASD's due to work:

Re: UVA Class of 2012
I'm probably the wrong person to answer your question, as the stereotypical UVA white frat guy who loves beer and sports, but I talked to a fair number of people, at the ASD cocktail reception and during the tour, who didn't share those interests but loved the school just fine. Any time you get 1000+ intelligent people in the same school you're going to have a ton of diversity of interests and lifestyles.reminiscent wrote:i'm pretty close to pulling the trigger, but i just need to know some things, as i was unable to go to both ASD's due to work:

I think the Asian population is around 7%. And that percent is surprisingly low to me compared to the people I met and talked to at the ASD - I would have guessed it was more like 20%. So maybe this year's class will have a larger Asian population.

Wow, I didn't even know people played it with paddles. That's... terrible, I guess.

Yeah, I think those people are confusing it with "ping" pong. Easy to mix those up.Cavalier wrote:Wow, I didn't even know people played it with paddles. That's... terrible, I guess.

Ivy- 660 sounds about right (for a 2 bedroom), might be a little lower
Beer Pong is, as far as I know, never played with paddles, except on the rare occasion when it's specifically called Paddle Pong.
There are enough Asians that you won't feel uncomfortable and you can join APALSA as a source to get to know more of them.
You don't need to drink to have fun. Obviously there's a lot of drinking that goes on but you can either have fun drunk-watching or there are plenty of other activities. Beer and softball are just the easiest routes to fun/social activities.

If by terrible you mean awesome beyond imagination then sure. But throwing a ball into a cup sounds cool too!Cavalier wrote:Wow, I didn't even know people played it with paddles. That's... terrible, I guess.

Re: UVA Class of 2012
A lot of people have answered this already, but I just figured I'd chime in- also not a big drinker (and do not like beer at all, so I definitely will not be partaking of the kegs), although I do enjoy sports. If this board is at all a representative sample, I think if you decide to join us at UVA, you'll find plenty of people interested in doing things other than drinking.
(ETA, so I don't sound like a total prude- I do sometimes enjoy drinking, and I don't have any problem with other people drinking- whatever makes you happy, so long as it doesn't hurt anyone else, go for it.)

Re: UVA Class of 2012
I can't imagine how hard that must be...do you get a bounce? Can people swat at the ping pong with their paddle? I thought my childhood days of practicing for Bozo's Grand Prize Game (anyone else remember this?) had made me a pretty awesome beer pong player...I'm not sure I've been fully groomed for paddles.Kohinoor wrote:If by terrible you mean awesome beyond imagination then sure. Beruit = No paddles
We played beer pong all the time at school (I don't go to Dartmouth), at least until our table gave way from all the beer. It's a lot more fun and you drink a lot more in a shorter amount of time. If someone has a ping pong table, I'll teach you and whoever else wants to play. It's not ping pong with beer, just so everyone knows - its all lob shots, no keeping score, no serving advantage. Don't hate it until you try it.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
