Wow, I almost had a heart attack just a moment ago. I checked my e-mail and there was an unread message titled "Cancellation of 2009-2010 financial aid." After reading the e-mail I discovered it was from UW, which is odd because I've never received financial aid from there before. Not cool, UW, not cool...

But seriously, I'm excited to be going to a school where there are actually conservatives. UW was just far too left-wing. The student senate even voted down building a monument to honor an alum who won a Medal of Honor in World War II because, as one student put it, "A marine is not the type of person we should aim to produce."

People like this should be executed by an all-USMC firing squad.

I agree the quoted student is an asswipe, but sadly he has a right to be so, a right Marines died granting him.

Speaking of loans, has anybody else not yet heard anything from Discover? I just remember that earlier in the summer everyone seemed to be getting daily phone calls (usually at 8 am)- is this cause for concern at this point?

Yea, I just saw that on my to do list. Ughh.... I was afraid they would make us do it again.

I just got the same email. I just emailed the finaid office to ask if that is normal for it to show up on the to do list with a status of 'initiated' even though I've already done it.

And same here -- nothing from Discover. I called them about a month ago though, and they said that everything was done on my end and theirs, and they were just waiting for UVA.

I got a phone call early in July (I think, might have been earlier) saying I needed to call them. I of course did not call until yesterday at which point the girl was confused why I had gotten a call at all. So I wouldn't worry. At least for my loan, Discover said the ball is now in UVA's court to accept/give them a number/perform a voodoo dance.
