I think so. The schedule looks okay, I kind of wish classes were closer together than they are.

Which section are you in, Go Bears? (You can pm me if you'd rather not put it out here)

Yeah, there is no LS. It's just a random extra credit. Maybe bc LP is a lot of work? Dunno.

The random LS class is because they needed to add another credit to 1L 1st semester. Pure and simple.

And I DO want to counter this notion that you need MAP and/or the LC to make friends. I didn't do MAP, lived off-campus all the way through, was 30 during 1L, and am vaguely misanthropic. I still had plenty of friends 1L year, most of whom weren't in my section. As a school like Michigan – which, after all, is full of "joiners" who've self-selected into the feel-good law school community culture – I think that you'd have to work at not meeting people.

Anyway, a big Welcome to the Deuce! for all of the summer starters trickling into town. You picked a great time: it's been gorgeous here for the last week.

How quickly does LC fill up? Am I screwed already?

I think June 15th was the deadline for submitting your application, wasn't it? That said, sometimes these do fill up earlier, so just fill out the form and fax it over. That's what I did, it was received instantly, and I already have my lease. If you decide you don't want to do LC in the end but would rather be elsewhere, you don't have to commit.

Wait, June 15th? Do you mean May 15th?

Looks like each section has a reasonably balanced schedule this year. Last year EFGH had the hell of Contracts, Civ. Pro., and Property all in the first term and the relative bliss of Torts, Crim. Law, and Con. Law second. It was an absolute hate / love year for me. All things considered, I have to say that was pretty much the credited schedule for 1L. But first semester made it less than easy to appreciate its sublime appeal at the time.

I think he actually did mean June 15th, but was encouraging you to move fast in case it fills up before the deadline, but not positive.

Best way to know for sure would be to call them. Even if the LC fills up, there's lots of stuff still available around campus.

One of my sources tells me that a section of the LC is being used as office space this year, so it may fill up faster than normal.

Okay, it looks like I am not screwed out of LC (though I might be on the short wait list for a little while). Diane sounded hopeful. Thank God.

Edit: Melda, that was a cheap shot. It worked. I am really partial to the environment factor (as everyone knows by now).

For those who checked their schedules--is there a reason why Clark has a book listed for one torts section and not the other? Would I be wrong to assume it's the same book for both courses? Also, is it a bad idea to buy my books online instead of in Ann Arbor?

I can't imagine he'll use anything different for the other section. Not a bad idea at all to buy them online, if you want. I ordered mine on the web from Ulrich's here in AA, just because I was too lazy to go pick them up. Barristerbooks.com is ok, as are Amazon.com, Half.com, and anywhere else you can get them as cheap as possible. And just a tip for the future: If you wind up with a casebook that you can't unload, like we did last year for Civ. Pro. (since nobody in their right mind would ever chose that book, ever), you may still be able to get something for it through Barrister's buy back program. They seem to take almost any casebook currently in print and will give non-trivial dollars for it.

I'm definitely not a fan of the large breaks between classes also.

First year schedule seems to suck ass for 3 out of the 4 sections no matter what. One section lucked out last year with no 8 a.m. classes all year, and first term their exams all started at noon instead of 8 a.m. like everyone else's. Then again, I think they had all take homes, and they drew four visiting profs in a row, which is more than anyone should have to stand.

Ouch, sadly nothing we can do about it now.

Good for you! This one is totally hanging over my head, and I have the feeling my topic has the potential to be one of the best things I've ever written or else totally painful BS.

At the risk asking an obvious question:

Does anyone know what the required texts are for Civ Pro and Legal Practice?

Depends on your class.

You'll almost definitely need the Bluebook.
