Re: Michigan 2012
does anyone know what orientation week is going to entail?
is it going to be terrible if my parents are going to be in town that week?
can I bring them to events, etc.?

Re: Michigan 2012
you can probably bring them to some but not to all.
For example there's service day and small group events with orientation leaders where your parents probably wouldn't be appropriate.
There's also a whole heck of a lot of going out. Orientation is really a good time to get to know the other students.

I'm the person whose house you were thinking of renting. . . unless this is a different Tetris.tetrisd wrote:Who are you IRL?? Does this mean you're not moving into my house when I leave?

Question for current students: I have some professors hounding me about going for a JD/PhD (in political science). I promised them I'd look into it. Looking at the website, the only joint degree offered is a masters in public policy or world politics. Do any of you know anyone who is doing a JD/PhD in poli. sci., or at least if there's flexibility in creating your own dual degree that's not on the official list?

I know people doing various Masters' degrees with their JDs, but not PhDs. But I don't think that means you can't do the PhD... just that most people are only willing to put in one more year of school.

found the perfect studio apt in ann arbor today
4-min walk to the law quad, not too big or too small, perfect size for me, in a well-kept building with a super nice landlord and a site manager who lives downstairs, lots of light, fairly large well-kept parking lot out back (free!), for only $650 w/ heat & water included (this is amazing to someone like me who has always paid rent in big cities with big-city prices )...i am content.

Good luck, PK!! Knowing you even as little as I do, I am quite sure that you are better prepared than you believe and will rock that P just fine.
Congrats, everyone else, on finishing and movin' on up! Especially you ex-1Ls! You survived! (Well, first good luck on that last exam...then congrats).
I get my cap and gown today. Huh. Weird.

Re: Michigan 2012
Congratulations, PK.
As a MAP Leader, I look forward to greeting the 0Ls in August. And seriously, relax this summer. Pretty much all of the students I know who did well this year didn't touch an E&E before law school started. I know, as overachievers, it will be difficult for you all not to take this advice. It just seems to make sense that by "working ahead" during summer, you'd be gaining a leg-up for 1L. It doesn't quite work that way, though. For instance, the contracts E&E spends something like 30 pages on restitution, and another 30 on third party delegation and assignees. The problem is that our contracts course spent a day on the former and decided to chop the latter from the syllabus.
The E&Es are definitely helpful, but in the sense that they are supplements. By definition, they supplement what you learn through the traditional casebook method. Just relax this summer, because I suspect that you can profit more from that than by doing 0L prep, even in the game of law school grades.

I dont know what E&E means (sorry i'm slow) but I'm guessing you would not say law preview is necessary either. They keep blowing up my email inbox. The most i'm doing is reading law School Confidential and going to a weekend thing for CLEO. Other than that, i'm traveling and soaking up my last bit of LA sun before I embark on the horrific Michigan weather.airlineraddict wrote:Congratulations, PK.

I actually think "getting to maybe" is really useful....actually even just the first half....that's about all I read to be honest.
Oh yeah....... GOOD TO BE A 2L!!!!!!!!
Time to go get drunk for the second time today.
