I didn't send a diversity statement either.
You can't construe anything on the application as asking you to say something specifically about your ethnicity/race/socioeconomic background. Though I guess it's your prerogative to use the space on the personal statement for that.
I think the only other school I applied to that said *nothing* about this was Vandy.

Still haven't gotten an answer (I submitted using the form on the blog) so I guess I'll leave out my diversity statement and just include a short GPA addendum that talks about my condition.

Finally submitted. I wasn't thrilled with my 250, but I took a chance and I wasn't sure that it was going to get better. At least I'm finally done!
