Beyond the obvious that can be inferred from the group names, is there an actual difference between these groups? Do second reserves only get the possibility for admission once the first reserve list has been exhausted? Does anyone have any idea about the relative size of each of these groups?

I think that at the end of may, everyone who is on the first reserve will be re-evaluated, and some will gain admission, some will be rejected, and the majority will make it to second reserve. The process then repeats itself mid-summer with those who are selected to remain on the reserve making it to third reserve.

so then we can assume that at this point everyone is in first reserve?

Yes. After they reevaluate candidates by the end of May, the second reserve will be created.

I was messing around, signing up for Reserve today, and found this to be true by trying other url's.

They sound like brand names for some high end spirit.

or a good year of wine. Columbia vintner's blend, first reserve.
