If you want biglaw, you're f--ked either way.Katerina wrote:So since the economy has tanked, I'm seriously reconsidering how much debt I can handle. Do you think it's career suicide to go to a low ranked law school for free rather than the most presitigous you can do for sticker?
This is almost entirely predicated upon your career goals...Katerina wrote:So since the economy has tanked, I'm seriously reconsidering how much debt I can handle. Do you think it's career suicide to go to a low ranked law school for free rather than the most prestigious you can do for sticker?
Not sure how "new" that news is, though. Hunton & Williams was one of the firms that had some seriously reduced summer associate classes LAST summer, meaning they were probably having trouble even before the meltdown.hoffb86 wrote:You know things are real bad when Hunton & Williams, a firm with sound roots in Virginia (they even have a hall of the law school) stops participating at OCI at UVA.... yikes.
It was new to me, so thats why I posted.... but yeah, I think I remember them having problems... Sucks though regardless.JSUVA2012 wrote:Not sure how "new" that news is, though. A good share of your classmates will get to experience this in real life. They won't shut the door in your face, and they'll just tell you to bid on whichever firm interests you the most. Then they'll hustle you out of the office and tell you to go pound the pavement.jschuyler wrote:I had my first GPA nightmare last night. In the dream, I logged onto a library computer to check my grades (apparently for the whole year; my dream school doesn't use a semester system), and they were all Bs. All of them! I ran to the Career Services office to ask them what firms to bid on at OCI, and they asked me my GPA. When I told them "Bs, all Bs," they shut the door in my face.
I hope these dreams don't become more common once school starts.
IDK about you, but I'm getting a joint JD/AA degree in Plumbing, as JDU urges.rayiner wrote:Yeah, everyone is pretty much fucked. Don't y'all wish you had real world skills that people were willing to pay money for?

economy. i'm gonna take a wild guess and say that firms don't follow rankings with the same obsessiveness of law students. imo, if GW doesn't improve next year, then then they might start to pay attention.Peter0061 wrote:--LinkRemoved--
ATL lists the firms that have pulled out of GW OCI.
Sorry Mr. Orange.
Think it is because of the drop in rankings, or just the OMG THIS ECONOMY factor?
