What are some good responses for the Why Law School question? I think that the answer I've come up with is too ethereal. Please let me know, I have an interview with Northwestern tomorrow!

Can I get one serious answer before the post goes ridiculously off-topic. Please.

Probably not... The best answer YOU can give is not going to come from this thread. If you cannot answer the question yourself than law schools is not for you.

You have one tomorrow? I thought they stopped doing interviews like a month ago.

Sorry, not Northwestern, GUCL. I've read from other threads they may not even ask the question but I have a feeling my guy will. I have an answer, the one I gave for Northwestern which seemed to go over well. Ultimate interdisciplinary profession, means to effect change, career-focused, etc. (I have a public interest strategy that colors most of my application) But as I said, seems too etheral/not tangible.

How do you confuse the school in which you (quite possibly) have the most important interview of your life to date... Go away

I did read that the dean of one T14 school (I forget which, but all of this is in "How to Get Into the Top Law Schools", 4th edition by J.D., Richard Montauk) that you "should not go to law school because you love law, but because you love studying the law." That was mostly written to deter idealists, so I don't know how much this will help you.

Also, don't say that you've wanted to be a lawyer since you were 5.

Not that idealism is bad...in fact that could be a strong reason that you want to do PI or govt work. Actually contributing to society instead of being an eternal taker is pretty idealistic, and if it's honest, that's the best answer you've got.

Man, just be honest. If your reasons are ethereal, they're ethereal.
Taking someone else's reason, especially from anonymous people online, isn't the solution.

This is exactly it. Listen to AR75.

Usually they say be careful with idealism... since so many people claim they want to work in public interest but very few end up doing so...but if it's OP's true reason then fabricating another reason isn't the best strategy.

Thanks for the help. I've been consulting Montauk and did so before my Northwestern interview but I felt that I rambled on after my interviewer asked that question so I wanted to stick with something more concrete. Again, thanks for the advice.

p.s. Moxster... don't be so pompous. Being dismissive on an online forum isn't scoring you points with anyone.

Didn't know this was a game... I would have been trying much harder.

Probably not... The best answer YOU can give is not going to come from this thread. If you cannot answer the question yourself than law schools is not for you.
And if you can not make the difference between "then" and "than"....THEN law school is not for you

Please excuse my typo... I'd like to take this opportunity to apologize to all of TLS. I let my spelling slip and that is unacceptable. I look forward to righting my wrongs in the future.

Motty
