Columbia University

0.045 (multiply by LSAT)
0.559 (multiply by GPA)

-5.512 (subtract)

= your index

Does anyone know if they take the higher LSAT when there is a significant gap? Or do they average?

Thanks!
When I called, they said they take the higher with a 7+ point increase.
I'm hoping they take the higher based on an individual case by case method

I thought it was a little tighter than that... 4.2=WL, 4.3=50/50, 4.4=in

I'm just curious, of the people here who have CLS as their top choice, have you actually visited the school? I ask, because I can't understand how anyone who's visited both NYU and Columbia to want to spend 3 years at Columbia. I'm not saying the place is a shithole, but it's a shithole.

4.1, though I think my score/GPA is average (aka way below average for them??). I want Columbia and NYU so bad it HURTS. I'm praying for a WL at this point.

Are you nuts??? Riverside Dr is the most beautiful street in NY, IMO. NYU looks like business school. Which is cool and all, but still...

Thanks for the info. Just calculated my index to be about a 4.36...what kind of chances does that give me (at a top 25 university with decent softs)?

It gets a ton of tourism so it's not as bad as you think. I actually prefer CLS to NYU because it has the whole Roman historical buildings.

Again, I reiterate, has anyone else gotten a request for fall grades?

I'm a 4.3, no request for grades, complete 10/17 but i don't think dates matter so much at this point.

Can someone tell me how to calculate my index#?

And did anyone else get a request from Columbia for your Fall 2008 grades? I'm hoping this helps me since I had all A's.

it's a good sign but my index number would be like a 3.9 so prolly not that good of a sign :P

I feel ignorant.

But: who came up with the formula? I doubt its validity mainly because GPA is meaningless when discussed without a context, like major(s), schools....

columbia came up with that index formula...and your GPA "taken in context" is practically meaningless in the admissions process.

Columbia as a whole is lovely, but the part of campus the law school is in isn't that pretty.

Also waiting on Columbia, although I didn't get my app in til the start of December so probably won't hear back soon. 4.5, although if i get in I think I'd rather go to NYU to change things up (Columbia undergrad...not sure I want to go back for three more years, as much as I loved it)

^ If your index is a 4.6, then you can probably go to places ranked higher than NYU to "change things up"... :D

(Though I can understand why for many, NYU is their top choice.)

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
