but it's impossible to underestimate the power of making an adcomm laugh right before they read your application. i doubt it makes much difference, but maybe you'll get a slight boost for putting someone in a good mood.

thats sooo funny. I seriously laughed for like, 10 minutes straight. If I were an adcomm, I'd admit you, even with a 2.24/149---you dont even NEED a diversity statement....that in and of itself shows how "special" you are

That's not far off; priming positive feelings can result in positive behavior (in the OP's case, generosity looking on your app?) I think Alice Isen(?) did research in that vain; if you find a quarter in the payphone, you're more likely to help someone pick up a stack of papers they drop. Give doctors a piece of candy, and they'll show more flexibility making a diagnosis. Maybe we should all have little jokes on our apps.
