that is the free 4-section test

I may be wrong, but I do not believe that they have sample ones for free that have the 5-sections. Cambridge LSAT has 5-section tests that you can purchase.

TLS has the amazing ability to make people think that a 170 is a run-of-the-mill score.

It would be a huge mistake to assume that a 170+ is easily attainable, especially with your GPA. Not trying to be negative, but just know what you're in for.

155-->172... no tutor/class/etc.

I used pretty much only TLS advice, tbh.

152>>>171

I attended a 7 week course three nights a week for 3 hours each. I studied about 5 hours a day. My scores were climbing until the day I took the test.

142 ======> 165 Highest/ occurred thrice times on multiple new practice exams in precisely timed conditions...Real score was a little lower, and honestly I'm 100% sure I should still retake and keep working for the 170+ because this test is literally something you can keep getting better at, unless you have a learning disability, but I thought my very pretty GPA would be a little more helpful, and neglected the now obvious choice of retaken in December, God do I feel dumb! And I know this opinion is not shared by many, but I strongly believe that 8/10 people can get a 170 with enough practice, but 8/10 don't have the belief in themselves, nor the patience to really practice their hardest at something like this for a good year, year and a half, nor the correct advice on how to properly do so. Yes I’m serious.

I remember when I got my diag and felt like crap about the games, the Princeton Review book said something like "don't worry, many can learn games and even get a score in the top 10%." I was sooo hopeful I'd get in the top 10% of LSAT scores.

I'm 4 years out of undergrad and took my first full timed practice test last night, and was NOT pleased with my score. Considering my scores on previous standardized tests, I was expecting much higher result. With my GPA (very low) I need more than a 170 to get me into a school, but judging from my staring point I have a long way to go.
I'm planning on two tests a week till the October exam, plus a Kaplan course, and two books - logic games and logical reasoning.

So, for everyone who got a 170 and higher ( and actually studied) what were your lowest starting points???

Thanks, and happy Friday!

171-->169

With lots of practice tests in between. Bet that doesn't make you feel better.
There is no way in hell you got a 171 diag
It's not impossible. Some people just get the test (particularly people that have taken logic recently and love the professor layton games).

My diagnostic was 165 and after 3 months of studying I got a 170... this topic is starting to make me think I should have studied a little more.

I went from 159 to 169 with about 4 months of studying at 15-20 hours a week. I'm pretty sure i'm just gong to drill every single thing I can for four months straight again before a retake.

My diagnostic was a 147 and i've been studying with a private lsat tutor since early june... http://newyorklsattutor.com/ . She teaches me a new type of question every week and i have just started timing myself. From these posts I am thinking about taking the testmasters course for the december exam. I just hope that they don't teach a conflicting style to that of my tutor's. My tutor is good but very very expensive.

I tutored a girl who started at a 143, and got in the mid-170s.

She was an exception from the norm though as she was smart but just never learned logic. She had a 3.9x GPA. I definitely think there is a correlation between GPA from a respectable school, and the amount of weight you should give a diag.

I have conversely had a student with a 2.8 GPA with a diag of a 136 who had his "heart set on Yale". I opted not to tutor him, but don't think he would have improved that much. Some people just are not cut out for the academic world, and while the LSAT can't prove who will work hard or what not, the LSAT can pick people out on the extremes.

Didn't get a 170+, but I got pretty close and my jump was pretty huge. 147 cold diagnostic --> 168 on the real one.
