Active Military 14yrs: 2.7/ 160

Post by JustMitchG » Sat Mar 05, 2022 1:44 pm

Hey team,

After 14 years of active military service, I’m looking to explore my options and attend law school. With a 2.7 uGPA, 3.5 MBA, and 160 LSAT, is T14 out of my league?

Goals: Clerkship, BigLaw

Proj Schools:

- [ ] Penn
- [ ] Georgetown
- [ ] Temple
- [ ] Howard
- [ ] Drexel
- [ ] UDC
- [ ] Famu
- [ ] Baltimore Law
- [ ] Rutgers
- [ ] Widener law x2

Thoughts?

Go to the top 50-75 school in the place you want to practice in for free. You want to be in PA? Go to Temple or Penn state for free. You'll get good packages since you've got the ribbon for GIs.
I think T14 and T20 won't happen, but you never know. I think UVA, Gtown, and NW are the friendliest to older and military folks. But I think schools like Drexel for free are good options if you are fine staying in Philly.

1L vet here, 6 years, 3.1 167.

Last year's cycle:
R at every T14, except WL-R GULC
WL-R at every T20.

Ended up at a T30 with very good BL numbers.

Odd (good) stuff can happen if you can get your LSAT to the median number. Schools want vets but folks below both medians at t14 are few and far between absent some mitigating circumstance. Being a vet isn't enough to overcome that in almost every case. Get your LSAT to 170, though, and it becomes a giant "who knows" instead of an almost assured "no way"
