2.49 College GPA

Post by Fears_No_More » Sun Jun 27, 2021 10:39 pm

I've already graduated

1. What score do I need to get on the LSAT
2. What is my best course of action?

I'm currently accepted into a masters in the medical field program

Why do you want to go to law school?

A sub-3.0 GPA is going to hurt your chances pretty much everywhere, but the LSAT you need is going to be entirely dependent on where you want to go to school. And the answer to that question is entirely dependent on what you want to do with your degree. The fact that you're apparently already considering a masters program for an unrelated field doesn't suggest that you have a strong interest in practicing law.

Consider cavalier's question. Should you decide to pursue law school, the best course of action is to determine what schools you would like to attend and apply with a LSAT score above the 75th percentile at those schools. Build the best application package you can (Resume, personal statement, letters of recommendation, any relevant addenda not already covered). If you have some compelling explanation for your GPA then admissions offices will be interested in that story, and if you don't then you need to own it and explain that you have matured and why things will be different this time. Obviously if you are 22 this will be less convincing than if you are 30 with work experience and strong recommenders. There is plenty of information here about applicants with low GPAs, just do a site search for "splitter" and "super splitter."

What LSAT score does a recent college graduate need with a 2.49 undergraduate GPA ? Probably in the area of a 164 or higher. Many lower ranked law schools--out of 200 ABA accredited law schools--may accept you with an LSAT score in the high 150s, but it will be at full sticker price at a law school with poor job prospects.

What course of action should you take ? Avoid law school at this time because the COA would be full sticker price at a low ranked law school. Focus on getting your masters degree in a medical field & on getting several years of work experience.
