I have seen a lot of posts talking about how it has been a tuff cycle this year, especially for splitters. I was wondering if anybody could shed light on why this happened(someone mentioned glut of high last). How does this factor into this next cycle coming up with some people taking the flex exam and the pandemic? Will it be a bad cycle(applying this fall)? I am sitting at 3.15 with 172 LSAT and figuring out whether this cycle might hurt my chances or should I wait a cycle.

Honestly with your stats I'd apply in the first cycle available because your numbers are split so wide that any cycle would be really unpredictable, and you're likely to get into a few good schools and get waitlisted or rejected at others. If you strike out in cycle N, you can reapply in cycle N+1. I don't know if anyone has actual intel on what trends will take shape in this next admissions cycle.
