On campus interviews. It is when biglaw firms interview for jobs after your 1L summer. So, you only get 1 year of grades to impress biglaw firms. They recruit for a summer associate position, which is like an extended party/interview for your 2l summer that in 99% of cases gives you a job offer in biglaw for after graduation.

So if your grades are not where they need to be given the school as a 1l, the biglaw ship sails real fast. There are not enough biglaw jobs and everyone wants one because of the salary.

If you’re looking at law schools make CERTAIN that you target a school with a large OCI reach. T14 is safe. Further down the ladder OCI participation thins out.

yes and the lower you go down the rankings, the worse OCI gets. At the t13, its all a lottery. Each student puts a list of the firms you wanna interview with in a computer program and regardless of the requirements of the firm, if you get a spot, you get an interview. Once you get past the t13, OCI becomes pre-select, where the firms get a list of the students and their grades and resumes, and then pick who they want to interview in the first round. That means at most schools, OCI is only there to service the top 5-10%. If you aren't in that grade group, you aren't going to get any interviews to start with. At a t13, below median kids will still get 30-40 interviews and get biglaw gigs from that. A top 30% kid at BC wont even get interviews because of pre-select.

The firms HATE lottery OCIs but put up with it for the t13 schools because that is where they get 90%+ of their classes from. Otherwise they dont waste their time after the t13 to deal with lottery oci
