Is it worth it to visit schools?

Hi everyone,

I have a low GPA and decent LSAT score (trying to be a sub-25th percentile GPA, 75th percentile LSAT) candidate. I'm planning a summer trip and realize it'll be pretty easy to visit UVA and GULC (two of my top choices and early decision contenders). I've read that the best way to write a Why X statement is to visit the school, is this true? Is it necessary to visit if I end up applying early decision (obviously I would only do so if I was committed to attending as a first choice etc.) Is it possible to write a convincing Why X without visiting?
