How to send in an resume addition?

I just recently got promoted at a big law firm, how do people usually send in a resume update? Is that just a sentence? Or is it a whole paragraph kind of deal?

"Dear [Adcomm],

I was recently promoted at my job and have attached an updated resume for my application file.

Hugs and kisses,

[Your Name]"

I have no idea what a paragraph-long version of this would look like, but please don't.
