Hi,

Being still undecided about whether I want to attend law school, I have let the December LSAT late registration deadline pass me by. Do schools - most importantly the T13 - accept February LSAT scores, and, in the case that they do, would having such a late score be detrimental to my chances at admission and scholarships?

Yes, applying with only a February LSAT will be detrimental in admissions and scholarships. It doesn't mean you won't get admitted to any given school, but your results will be worse than they would be if you waited until next cycle to apply earlier in the cycle.

I would definitely take your time to prep and take in June. Then you'll be beautifully positioned to get your apps in as soon as they open. You can also take the intervening 10 months to think about what you really want.

Only a few T13 will take only a February LSAT (including Yale, Penn, Michigan, Virginia), but you'll be at a severe disadvantage because of the late app.

I guess the rush is due to my already being 34 years old and my already significant resume gap.

They extended the late registration deadline to Nov. 7th FYI.

Then my next question is... Would a December LSAT as my first LSAT be detrimental to my chances at admission to or scholarships from the T13?

I'm still having mixed feelings about applying for Fall 2018. I'm sort of in a hurry because I'm already 34, and I already have a significant gap in my work/school history. But I'm also hesitant because I would be applying late in the cycle (is December late?), and I have a legal C&F issue from earlier this year that I may want to distance myself from. (I'd like someone to evaluate the effect of my C&F issues on my admission chances, but I am unsure about posting specifics on a public forum.)

Any feedback appreciated!

As long as you get a good enough score, no. Probably suboptimal if you're a splitter, but you haven't said yet what kind of grades you got in college, and even splitters can get great results if they apply in early January.

You could:
1) Get your application materials together now
2) Take the LSAT in December
3) Determine how likely you are to get the schools you want with that LSAT score
4) If you like your chances, apply and go to step 5; otherwise, wait out the cycle
5) If you like at least one of your offers, go; otherwise wait out the cycle

The downsides are that you'll have to hustle to get ready for the LSAT if you're starting now and you might burn a few hundred dollars on registration/application fees, but if expedience is paramount (and you have relatively legit reasons for wanting to move things along quickly) then you might as well go for it.
