I did undergrad in America and am doing a masters program in Oxford this year. I'm planning on applying in Fall 2017 for law school and am wondering how the UK grading system will convert to a GPA.

I have First Class Honors in Oxford right now. Does that equal a 3.7/3.8 in American standards?

Was your undergraduate degree conferred by an American institution using the 4.0 scale? That will form the basis for your GPA as submitted to law schools, not your masters at Oxford. LSAC won't factor in grades received beyond the receipt of your first bachelors decree.

Schools will take some notice of your graduate work, but it won't be the overriding considering in evaluating your application.

Doesn't matter about grad school. I have an oxbridge masters and I don't even know if it was converted. What matters is your undergrad gpa, nothing else. But if you hypothetically had an undergrad first, its rated superior by the lsac.

Also I looked at your past posts and I hope you are not still intending to apply ED with a 174/3.7 to Columbia.

Your transcript will likely be evaluated as "Superior" (I got a 2:1 and got an Above Average" evaluation). The official equivalent GPA is 3.67 but I think that's bullshit.

I wouldn't worry too much about what your equivalent GPA is either, a first from Oxbridge won't stop you from getting into any top school so as long as you have a competitive LSAT you'll be fine.
