I assumed the TLS community would prefer the Ivy prestige over the Bay Area fun and sun

I haven't had this much fun on TLS in a long time!
I guess North is too busy to run the contest this year?

I would think people would be far more interested in the combination of Article III clerkships and NLJ numbers.

So if a T14 school like GTown drops to 15, does the elite T14 become the elite T15 or does, say, Texas replace GTown as an elite law school

The T14 is because the schools have never not been ranked in the top 14. So if Gtown drops, It would have to be called the Top 13, and just exclude Gtown and Texas.

That's not true. NU was ranked as low as 16th in the early days, and Cornell was 15th. Both UT and UCLA were in the top 14 of the debut USNWR rankings.Fiddlesticks wrote:The T14 is because the schools have never not been ranked in the top 14. It appears you are right. Only once (in the debut year, 1987) was NU and Cornell not a T14. I apologize, my statement should say, "The T14 is because the top 14 schools have been ranked in the top 14 every year except the original ranking."rpupkin wrote:That's not true. The T14 has the only schools to ever have a top 10 ranking in USNWR.Fiddlesticks wrote:The T14 is because the schools have never not been ranked in the top 14. So if Gtown drops, It would have to be called the Top 13, and just exclude Gtown and Texas.

Re: Just for fun-- Predictions: 2018 USN Law School Rankings
I just got a peak at 21-30. There are some major shake-ups. Two schools jump from nowhere into the T30, knocking out a couple of schools I thought would be in the T30 for a long while.
I know that TLS tends to focus on the T14, but for those of you out there who care about the T30, hang on tight.

This is pointless and anyone actually caring about this is serving USNWR's self-perpetuating purpose of making 0Ls care about meaningless distinctions.

Shouldn't it be the T16 then to include UCLA and UT who both have made it into the T14 at least once?Fiddlesticks wrote:It appears you are right. Re: Just for fun-- Predictions: 2018 USN Law School Rankings
No. I don't like the idea of polluting the top tier with regional schools. Frankly, the T14 should be slimmed down, not fattened up. I've long championed the idea of setting the "prestige" cutoff based on the T10 of the year 2000. That was the year that the rankings got the most attention and best response rates—everyone wanted to get the important "millennial" rankings correct. Here are the top 20 schools that year:Ferrisjso wrote:Shouldn't it be the T16 then to include UCLA and UT who both have made it into the T14 at least once?

Yeah top 10 would still make more sense than T14.rpupkin wrote:No. I don't like the idea of polluting the top tier with regional schools. Frankly, the T14 should be slimmed down, not fattened up. Re: Just for fun-- Predictions: 2018 USN Law School Rankings
My problem with the top 10 above is that I have a hard time considering middling state schools being elite at anything. Drop Chicago and NYU from that list and bump up Penn (I know, also a middling state school but they had a good football program at one point at least) and Georgetown (located in DC which is the most prestigious city in the US and technically a law center which sounds pretty neat to me) then I could live with it.rpupkin wrote:No. I don't like the idea of polluting the top tier with regional schools.
